...although, when I posted this it wiped out my "personality of the week thread" and shows a posted date of 12/31/69. Wow...before the internet and just after the first moon landing! Very impressive!

I must agree, Daniel never ceases to amaze me. He is always adding the features we are asking for.

impressive to notice;how many poeple view but don't reply??????????? makes me think of discussions in AVS forums, so here is my take x views does not mean that x people have viewed the same thread, it could be the same person that went back x times. Let me give an example, let's look at a thread with 10 posts, from 10 different people, and each time someone posts, then everyone goes to see what the new guy posts 1-0 original post = 0 view 2-2 reply#1= reply + original poster is back 3-5 4-9 5-14 6-20 7-27 8-35 9-44 10-54 .... so even though in my example everyone that read the thread has posted the # can go up dramatically. Even though the example is far fetched, you must also consider that I did not add any edits, screen refreshes or going back to the thread for other reasons. so basically what I am saying is that it is hard to make any conclusions from view numbers (and the reason no one answered)

I'm not counting the following:
1) If the poster has elected to go immediatly to the thread after a new posting or reply, that view is not counted.
2) If the poster has elected to go to the thread after a message edit, that view is not counted.

x views does not mean that x people have viewed the same thread. maybe so, but after the counters settle out from their newness, you should get a fairly good indication which threads people like to keep track of just for the inannity available for viewing. good for lurkers, too.

It seems that each time you change page in a thread, it counts as another view.

also 1,2 cause the page not to count refreshes so it is not a one time thing
(I have my edit to return me to my thread, when I tested editing my post and refreshing, the counter did not change)

It appears to me that all things being equal (they never are), it is a ten to one ratio on views to responses of the threads new to this feature.

Yeah, only 2 years before the internet. Not too many people know that the internet has been around since 71, or maybe 72. Not sure though. And AOL, has been around before the internet became WWW in 1991 or 2. Rob

Huh? I though AOL had been around since the invention of the telephone "busy signal".

nope......it was al gore, back in '69 when he was shooting some hoops with his buddies from DOD/ARPA.
he had this mantra every time he would get a free throw........'nuthin but net, nuthin but net, nuthin but net'........they all thought he was an idiot and a loser for sure.
well, they weren't half right, as we all eventually found out.

Aha!
I think I found out why some threads were disappearing. If the original poster edited the title of a thread, the next thread in line would be messed up. It would be totally deleted on the next post to that thread.
From Ken's description above I had a good idea of WHAT was happening (without being able to see it), but could not figure out WHY it would be happening. I just found a bit of code that would have caused the exact problem I was thinking of.
