The full name of this remote is
Darth Maul's Sith Infiltrator Universal Remote. It is a
TeleMania product marketed by
Kash N Gold Ltd. and sold by
SmartHome for about $20 bucks.
Design:
Out of the box, it looks just like the picture. The grey plastic case is reminiscent of a good model airplane kit with lots of design indentations all around. Physically the remote is about 9" long and about 6" wide across the top
superstructure, tapering to about 1'' at the bottom end. The coloring is two-toned grey with deep red trim. When sitting on a coffee table it rests at an angle due to the front wing stabilizers. Visually, it looks cool!
Features:
The
Sith Infiltrator Remote will operate three devices, in any combination of TV, VCR, Cable Box, DSS, and DVD through it's three device keys : [TV], [VCR], or [CBL] using an extensive list of preprogrammed codes. Any of the three labeled device keys can be programmed to operate any device. Setting up the device codes is straight forward and similar to many universal remotes: Press the device key, press PGM, enter 3 digit code, press PGM. Easy. (The memory will be sustained even when changing the 4 AAA batteries).
It also features a type of
intelligent Punch-Thru, meaning that it inherently knows that the TV volume should push through for the VCR, etc. And, there is one macro key which can handle macros up to
100 steps, including pause capability (not bad for a toy).
Operation:
This thing has sound effects from the motion picture! When you press power it says "Yes my Master". Other keys sound like rapid laser fire, the Silth infiltrator engine, or double laser blasts. Major Cool! (or was that Major Tom?). The sound effects can be turned off and are substituted by flashing red lights out of the command modules roof. However, you cannot have it both ways.
Summary:
I bought this for my Niece and Nephew to use as a kid's remote. They really love it and we big kids get a kick out of it too. It's shortcoming is that it has to be a TV based remote, since it doesn't have codes for A/V receivers. But hey, for $20 bucks.....not bad.
