I have posted about this before and am at my wits end. Almost every time I try, I cannot post. The page hangs and eventually times out. Sometimes I have to try 25 times to get something to post. It does not matter what computer I am on or what ISP account I am using (I have two, one is high speed and one is dial-up). Do you have any ideas what might be causing this? I can surf the forum fine, just can't post.

p.s. It is completely erratic. This just posted fine after trying to post something else for 10 minutes.

p.s.s. OK, now I just went back to the other post and tried again and it is hangs again and this posts instantly.

p.s.s.s. Well, just for the hell of it I am now modifying this message for the third time, but I still can't post in the custom installers forum.

Q: I have never had problems posting on here (except once or twice when the user DB got corrupted and it was telling me, and everyone else, that our IDs did not exist). Can it be network settings, do you have some kind of firewall software or how about the settings in the browser.

Can you give more details on the problem? error messages?....

I know how frustrating it must be, so good luck with getting it to work.

Anthony:

It happens on multipe PC's with different operating systems (2000, XP). There are no error messages - the page just hangs until it finally jumps to a "web page cannot be found" or whatever the standard message is. Yes there is a firewall but its configuration should not have any effect on posting here and I can bypass it and it still happens. I do not believe it is hardware on my end nor am I saying it is hardware on Daniels end. I am open to ideas.

I am open to ideas.

that was what I was giving. I definitely post enough, and since I never saw the problem, I was trying to give ideas that are not server dependent (or I would have seen it as well)

are both accounts with the same ISP (I know the DSL company I am thinking of going with allows you to connect by modem just in case you have a laptop and you are outside your home).

I didn't say you weren't (giving ideas)! I just meant I am open to any and all. Both of my accounts are with the same ISP. I cannot remember for sure but I THINK it also happened with the previous ISP. If it happened consistently, I could just call up a couple of friends in my area that are on other ISP's and have them try to post while I am having problems. Unfortuantely, it is so inconsistent that even if they were succuessful at that moment, it probably wouldn't tell me anything.

It would appear to have SOME relationship to the message size. One or two words seem to post fine. Many words frequently fail.

They may have the page set to expire on the web server in "X" amount of time. If the time it takes you to compose a wordy message exceeds that time your "post is toast". (If they're doing this at all.)

This also means if you leave the room or get distracted for any amount of time you end up timing out. You could try composing in a text editor and then pasting it in.

Thanks Sheik I ruled out that one too. I have repeatedly tried cutting and pasting the "offending" post into a new page and then hit "submit your reply" quickly, thinking maybe that would solve it. It doesn't.

There's no timeouts. And, but the way, there IS a test forum -- just replace "rc-general" in the URL with "rc-test".
