I found out about it [Link: avsforum.com]

there are several threads on the subject. I think the MRSP was stated in one of the threads (or was it to one of the reviews linked to by the threads) as being 400$ and 450$ depending on the card (different memory).

Now let me see. $400 - $450 roughly equates to £270 - £310. Certainly not a snip but in "real" terms...

When I bought my first PC it sported a Matrox G100 plus 1 x 12mb Voodoo2. I later bought a second Voodoo2 to SLI them. Adding that little lot together comes to something like £490 - and that was 4/5 years ago!

Hate the Euro!?

That's it! Continental Europe is going to have to start driving on the left, adopt the imperial measurement system and the £ (and by that I mean £sd not £p). Now wouldn't that be fun.

£ - pounds
s - shillings
d - penny/pence (though quite why a 'd' was used I don't know. Something historical (hysterical) no doubt).

As for use:

12d = 1s
20s = £1
therefore 240d = £1

Further notes:

1 farthing = ¼d
1 hapenny = ½d
Thrupenny Joey = 3d
Tanner = 6d
2 Bob = 2s
Half a Crown = 2/6 (2 shillings / 6 pence).
Crown = 5s
1 Guinea = 21s

Then, in 1971, along with supposedly going metric*, we went decimal... £1 = 100p (how boring).

*Slight anomaly here. If you were to tell me someone was 1.82m tall I wouldn't have a clue; I'd be fumbling with my fingers... 25.4mm to the inch, so 1.82m is... type of thing. On the other hand, being an electrical apprentice at the time, I only know electrical cable by mm² sizes; 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.5, 4.0, 6.0, 10.0 etc. Oh, and to confuse the issue even further the standard small conduit sizes are 20 and 25mm (the equivalent of 3/4" and 1") which are not the same as mainland Europe. Ho, hum.

weeelll, that explains a lot... ;-)
And I thought the french were complicated (quatre-vingt-douze -> 4*20+12 = 92).
Maybe we should rethink the unifying of Europe by the british standards... AND GET RID OF THE EURO ANYWAY!!!

I don't know, I just spent a good chunk of yesterday reading info on that new card. But if you look at Matrox's announcement it is not of a particular card, but of a GPU, so how many different model of graphics cards and the range of all of them will come out latter. That 450 was what I read as possible price (don't forget that it is a rumor and not a press release) for the most powerful in the line. I also read at a different place that it seems that Matrox will do for graphics what SB did with the Audigy (different cards tweaked for different purposes) but then again I guess we will need to wait a couple of months for the actual cards.

Thanks djy for the link. But that guy has already found flaws before the card is even built yet:-). I would rather be exited about something new then think of how many ways it can be messed up.

..... Well, you may call me an inveterate skeptic, but I do not believe in immense popularity of the new Matrox Parhelia-512 in any of the market segments, and hence cannot regard this product as a revolution in the full meaning of this word. At least until I see some details test results.

I think he needs to look at my link in the links thread :-) (under begging the question)
