My computer came pre-installed with Pico Player by GigaPocket. It seems like a TiVo built right into the computer. Anyone know of this software?

You probably have a Sony computer, correct?

From what I can find, PicoPlayer is merely an MPEG1 player/recorder that allows you to distribute the picture over your computer network, and you can upgrade to MPEG2 playing for a fee. I do not see any reference to automatic recording capabilities or scheduling, etc.

I do have a Sony computer. It does say though that it can record off the "network", whatever that means. I guess I'll have to check into it. I figured someone here might know.

"Recording off the network" means that it will record MPEG1 (or MPEG2 with the software upgrade) from another computer that is networked to yours.

The "network" does not refer to "internet". If you have a digital recorder, or TV-tuner, or something like that, your PicoPlayer will be able to record the incoming MPEG stuff to any computer on the network.

This is not related to a Tivo-like device.

Gregorius,

Thanks for the help. Now I did read in the help menu this statement

"You can connect to Giga Pocket Server with PicoPlayer and watch TV"

Do you think that it's possible to record TV this way (even in MPEG format) and save it to disk?

It also mentioned something about "Video Capsules". Any idea what this is.

Here's a link I just found on this

if you're interested.
