Pretty sure that's not how you're supposed to be using that.

This is what I've been putting up with in the middle of the night lately...

Is that heavy breathing or gnashing of teeth I can hear?

PS
Is that the building going up in the background of the house demolition video?

That's kind of the same building - some of what you see is what they built in 2001 (the illuminated part to the left), but the whole section from the pine trees extending to the right of the screen is an expansion that's been under construction since 2011.

Presumably then that's what we're seeing, but if so it's extremely inconsiderate to be doing it at night. Is there no local/area government office you can approach?

In contrast, I (in my former life as a night shift supervisor/manager) have been on the other side of such issues, but always took noise complaints very seriously, as an enforcement notice could have had all sorts of repercussions. Didn't stop the odd vexatious complainer though. "I can't understand how a factory was allowed to be built in a residential area," which brought a wry smile as that particular block of houses had been built on what used to be the factory car park.

As far as I can tell, for the past month or so they've been tearing apart the *old* part of the building, and doing it from 11 PM to 3 or 4 AM. And there are definitely city by-laws about such noise - no construction is allowed from 7 PM to 7 AM, and to my knowledge no extension has been granted (no notice given).

Frankly, though, this is but the tip of the iceberg with what they've been doing lately... and in this case, they moved into the neighborhood, not the other way around! :-)

A definite cause for complaint then.

Over here such work would almost certainly require planning permission and local residents informed - such as our council did with this.

That is just nuts. I agree with DJY, you should complain if it is bothering you

I complained... and it seems they got caught, because all week they've been completely silent after hours.

Then on Friday, I hear from town "by-law enforcement" that now they've applied for an exemption, and had it granted for 4 specific days - but only up to 11PM... while they had tried to apply for 4 AM (what they'd been doing).
