Or they went around in circles and disappeared up their own black holes?

According to Doctor Who Confidential the redesign, though not necessarily the paint jobs, is down to the height of Karen Gillan.

The eye stalk of the original Daleks was set at the eye level of Billie Piper. Ms Pond is 6" taller, hence the new steroid abuse version.

I love how the Dalek's space ship came with all the extras. Bumper-guards on the verticle support collumn, to keep clumsy Daleks from damaging it. Round retro AC vents, to keep the Doctor comfortable on his visits. Sprinkler system, to cool off overheated Daleks.

Heh, that was literally the second thought I had seeing that photo - "why does the Daleks' ship have a sprinkler system?"

Thoughts on the new series?

I loved it - and a brilliant series finale.

As the series final is over the next couple of weeks for us I think I'll stay away from this thread in case of spoilers. I must say that it has got better as it went on.

The Beast Below was a bit wet and the Daleks in WWII tended to lose the plot, but things improved with the Angels (never, ever will be as scary as Blink) and on and up from there. So I'm definitely looking forward to the last two episodes. Especially with your personal endorsement djy!

I have to agree, very different to the last few "fanfare" style endings. This tended to gradually build and then...there is was. Also a brilliant set of teasers for 2011.

Loved the bit with River Song and the Dalek.

As I said in the previous post, the series improved as it went on. As far as I am concerned Matt has definitely established himself as the Doctor.

Roll on the next series

Do you get Doctor Who Confidential? Next season we find out about "The Silence" - and who River Song really is.

Also . . .

Yes we get DW Confidential thanks, that's what I meant about the teasers for 2011.

Thanks for the link, although in this instance I had seen it.

I wondered how DW would go once Russell T Davies left, but I can see that he has left it in more than capable hands
