WOuld like to know if there is a programmable (or non-programmable)remote that can go from room to room - for example, I have DirecTV in living room wired to bedroom, but channels have to be changed in the LR. Any remote that will do that? Also, can remotes be programmed for TiVO? New to this, so forgive if it's a stupid question.

What you want is an RF remote (radio frequency). Most remotes are IR (infrared) and require a line of sight between the remote and the device being controlled. The RF use radio signals so it doesn't require line of site.

You can also use remote extenders which convert the IR to RF, transmit to the other room, and convert the RF back to IR. Here's several examples of products you can use. [Link: smarthome.com]
