Good question.. i tracked down the article at engadget [Link: engadget.com]

It appears that if one of the remotes is not in the holder you can BUZZ it. Here's the quote..

"Color coded, one touch buttons work in conjunction with specific remotes to help you locate lost remotes. Just push the button on the base to signal lost remote."

So it must be some little plastic dew-hickey that you glue to each remote that will buzz and alert you to its location. This thing costs $60 bucks!
