In a weeks time i have noticed 2 threads in the CI forum where someone attempted to belittle someone else because of thier high post count. Does this happen often?

I was very active in message forums between 2000-2003 when i was teaching myself how to use a computer. Back then a high thread count was a badge of honor. Is it something to be ashamed of now?

Have i missed something? When did all this take place?

Obviously my post count will be higher than his...I've been here for 3.5 years and I think most will agree that I contribute quite a fair share of valuable posts vs. non valuable. That guy guy can kiss my ass :-> I had nothing but on-topic replies to that thread. Why I outta...

I once used to frequent a forum based around all things 3dfx (Voodoo graphics cards). Fine for a little while, but when the inevitable happened and the closure was announced, it amusing to see that the only thing the "major contributors" were concerned with was how many posts each had made; you know, the I'm better than you because I posted more, type of thing. Ridiculous!

As for RC, I came here a few years ago, for help and advice with my original Pronto, and have never truly left. I help out where I can (not usually in the CI forum, because it's mostly way above my head) but I'm not ashamed to admit that most of my postings have been in the Intermission nor about the number I've made - it's merely a by-product of my being an active contributor over a lengthy period of time.

PS
I also used to visit The Register forum, primarily because they had a wonderful contributor in "The Hermit" (Don Martin) - he was so off the wall I doubt if even MrK could have kept up.

in real life a high post count is good, it means you are actively participating in a forum. The issue is that over time with post count = good some people decided they wanted to be "good" and the post whores came about. you know, a +1 everywhere, a bump.... The issue is that back in the day if someone posted BS or garbage they would just get shunned or attacked by other members and so would go away (no place for useless garbage that no one is interested in) but now on most forums you have to "play nice" so in a lot of them many people with many posts never really add much (but just try to increase their post count). On this forum I think , for the most part, everything is still in balance. But I think for a few, especially people with low post count that mostly live on other forums, they bring that same attitude here.

There is also the flip side the "this guy posts a lot, he must not have a life outside the forum" attitude to guys with high post count. But I attribute it more to jealousy because all it means is that those people don't know how to manage their time.

ok, I'm back...

Stamp... The Intermission completely inflated my post count. So the number really has no bearing on at least my ability to give solid info. If anything, I miss having the low number.... At least I could easily get away with seeming clueless as a newb.

Oh...and how the Hell does Steath get top billing Tweet...? I have way more posts then he does.

:)

I post a lot, but seriously never even think about the "Post Count". I just like to blab away, I live alone and well, don't have much of a life, except for spending a couple hours in the morning and the evening HERE.

39, I've got blasted for posting too much, on many occasions, but I think that is ridiculous... I think a few guys need more significant issues to bitch about.

I've also noticed (not on RC so much) but on a lot of other sites, people get very nasty and very petty.

I don't understand the dynamic(s) of that other than there must be a lot of deep seated anger and frustration out there.

I've always enjoyed chatting away with guys here, and the more active the better - jmo

Ha! don't worry the names were typed in no particular order and in no relation to the skills at starting a riot in the forums...I haven't seen him around these parts in a while; I knew you would have my back :-> I'm biting my tongue at going back to that post...I know I will it's just a matter of time LOL

Well, if "low post count" = "high quality posts" and "high post count" = "low quality posts", then I'm in serious trouble!

LOL, I'm still skeptical, Daniel, about that number you have. I mean yeah 6 or 7 posts every day for 10 years but come on...there's no way you can do that and keep the site running and ensure the ads are up to snuff and generating revenue, write reviews, monitor the horseplay around here and still be a sane person :-)
