Im getting a laptop with Windows XP for work becuase my experience with Vista has been slo..................ooo............w. All of the CI software i run works on XP and it should fly on a current specd' laptop.

Out of the ashes... and my deep rooted hatred for Vista there are 2 features i have grown to love.

#1.Photo Gallery. I know there are tons of image gallery apps out there but i really like Photo Gallery.

#2.File renaming. Im not sure what they call it but when you go to rename a file now the file extension doesnt get highlighted. This allows you to rename a file without getting hit with the "are you sure you want to change the file type..blah blah it will become unusable.." error you get in previous versions of Windows when you forget to retype the file extension.

What Vista features do you love?

None of them.

I haven't found one thing about Vista that I say, "Ooh! I really like that!"

The photo gallery is nice but I'm just fine with files and folders.

I generally keep file extensions hidden in the control panel anyway.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. XP works fine for me, so why change?

I don't hate it, but there is nothing standout for me, and there is a long list of why the $#@&!

One or two programs I DO like seem to run better under Vista so I tend to use it for them

The wife's machine is still XP and there would be no way of moving her in a hurry

So millions of dollars and man hours and no one can name a single feature they love.

So im waiting on my new laptop.. should be here in a week. I have a project im working on this week. I started on it last friday and the software runs so slow that i was about to quit my job when i finally decided to just go buy a desktop from bestbuy this morning to use this week.

I get it out of the box.. i connect a 23 inch LCD..turn it on.. go thru the motions.. go to crestron.com to download software.. start to install it and i get a bunch of errors.. Looks like my new 64bit vista machine wont work with the software i use. I wasnt smart enough to think about this.. when i went shopping i wanted something with the new i7 intel processor and i didnt pay attention to anything else.

I ended up downloading vmware and installing XP. This computer is so freaking fast that ive been working for 10 hours straight. And i mean really working.. not goofing off at RC. I got more done today then i did friday/sat/sun put together. I think i might actually earn my paycheck this week :-/

The Lenovo laptop finally showed up on tuesday. I got a docking station with it so i could easily use it with a 23" monitor & mouse & keyboard.

It has XP installed with 4GB ram and this thing is flying. I got out to a job today and found that my last 2 days of programming were wasted because the file was corrupted. I planned to load the program and take my tome going room to room testing all day. Instead i found myself rushing around like a lunatic with no breaks until 7PM trying to rewrite the program. Luckily i found a working version of the file that wasnt to old so i didnt have to rewrite the whole thing. SystemBuilder is a PITA.

I would have never been able to finish in time using the ACER notebook i bought in march of last year. Everytime Crestron releases a new version of software its time to upgrade your computer :). After about a week the only Vista feature i miss is the renaming thing but i 'solved' it by hiding file extensions (thanks OTAHD). Oh.. and XP's visual appearance is ugly. I remember thinking it looked so cool when it first came out.

Thats all i have to say about that...
