DO NOT BUY A LG REFRIDGERATOR!!! Had to shout this out somewhere..what a piece of junk. My wife insisted on it because of french doors and finish. Well, at least 5 parts have broken and to top it off the light stayed on and the light housing melted. I wonder if one day the house will be burned down. They extended warranty but no one will touch it. Found out they dont have the parts for it. What a company! Everyone i talk to is not american also. Ive had to file a complaint with our Attorney General. I know , i know..shouldnt buy an appliance from a TV company..right?

You could try contacting head office in Korea. I did that when I was having service problems with my car a couple of years back. Boy you never saw those local guys jump so quickly. They had my car for 2 days and it came back looking better than ever and the problems were fixed!

who said they are a TV company :)
LG is an OK company but it is also what I would call 3rd tear. In some products they are not bad but in others they are not good. Over the years I have heard a lot of issues of LG fridges and this summer when I bought one I went with GE. I like Hyundai but I find a big issue with many large Korean companies is that they are way too varied, loo at Samsung, LG, Daewoo... they epitomize jack of all trades and master of none.

I have an LG steam washer & dryer... besides for a few noises that I don't think should be happening, they've otherwise worked perfectly for a few years now and do a great job on the clothes.
Fridge-wise I currently have a Thermador (essentially a customized Kitchen Aid built-in)... absolutely the best fridge I've ever owned.

Who were the first two tears for? _____________ JE Design Group.. two letters AND two words _______________________________ RICHNWB.. ...I think you got screwed and you know it.... good luck with the complaint I haven't fixed the little water spout on my fridge since it's little tube developed a crack.. I asked for it at my local appliance repair house.. mind you this part is smaller and lighter than a pack of matches.. Held on by one screw. cost to me? ~$140.00! - my tap water is quite excellent

Actually when they started they were known as Goldstar and made refrigerators then (1960s).
Not sure if this is true, but, the story I was told some years back, was that the brand of TVs, Goldstar was known to be very unreliable. Evidently the company changed hands and the new owner wanted to rename the company 'Lucky Goldstar'. Being aware that 'westoners' thought badly of Asian companies that used the word 'Lucky' in their business name, they shortened it to LG and used the acronym Lifes Good! In the early days, due to reliability issues, most people began to use the acronym, 'Lucky it Goes'. As I said, don't know if it's true or not, but as they say, 'don't spoil a good story with the truth!'

I would like to say that a more accurate version of their history can be found here, but there have also been times when Wikipedia has be accused of not allowing facts to get in the way of a good story.

Reminds me of an interview I saw once with Michael Parkinson and Jennifer Saunders. She said that her Wikipedia page allowed her to could keep up with the "news". She now knew of relationships in her life that she did not know of before!
