I remember the sixties. That places me in a certain age group, and the fact that I remember them places me in a certain group who didn't go off the deep end.

I have heard a question asked about low pants, and I'll ask it here. Maybe someone has an answer. Maybe someone has a friend whom they can ask and get a straight answer. The question is:


I just had dinner with friends, and across from us a young guy got up and adjusted his pants. Fortunately, we only saw this from behind. But we saw, above the top of the pants, an area of boxers about three inches below the elastic. Minutes later he got up and walked away, and I swear the top of his pants were at or below the area of maximum gluteal protrusion. That is, they were freakin' low! I don't want to think what might have been holding them up...just wanna know

Im 33. Baggy pants showed up while i was in highschool "Cross Colors" "JNCO". Back then the pants were baggy but you kept them pulled up like normal pants.

The last few years i have noticed that the kids have the belt area of the pants under the butt cheeks and usually they have string holding them up to a belt thats wrapped around their waste. The boxers are not underwear anymore, they are usually your last layer of defense from getting an eye full. Then they have a T-Shirt thats long enough to reach their knees. It makes them look like they have tiny little legs and a long torso.

That picture is right on. That is indeed how they look.

The answer: Because they want to emulate what they see on TV, specifically rap and hip-hop videos. It's no longer specific to race, it has now become specific to those that are just plain and simple, a damn fool. They can't even walk normal. I saw one guy trying to jog down the street looking like that (presumably chasing after a "shorty" or running from the law; it's safe to assume he wasn't in a hurry to make it on time to a job that you and I would hold in high regard); it was quite comical. I see it day in and out here and every time I do I wish, sometimes out loud, that they fall flat on their face. Ha! Yeah it annoys the heck out of me.

I blame plumbers.

I've got the inside info on this one.

It was first conceived by the federal agencys. Their intent was to give the advantage back to the aging authorities that could longer run down criminals. Have you ever wondered why Hip Hop artists manage to get away with all those fire arm and drug related charges...? They gave them a choice in either doing the time or pushing this stupid looking fad onto todays youth.

Only took a couple of years and now the young punks can't even make it down the street without landing on their faces. Looks stupid and drives me nuts, but hilarious to witness the slap stick wipe outs.

Fortunately we seem to be going beyond this fad over here, one doesn't see it quite so often now.

Perhaps, as in the case of my daughter, the elder generation came to realise that a few well timed wedgies could have a significant impact on this "style" of dress.

djy you're lucky. It's still in full effect here in the U.S. I even snowboarders with the look on the mountain while riding, unreal!!!!!

One of these days I'm gonna sneak up behind one of these idiots and yank his pants down and push him over and run like hell!

I read somewhere where it is a GANGSTA type of thing whereas, when you get thrown in jail, they take your belt away so you won't hang yourself.
So these stupid assed kids try and replicate that thing. My son came home "sagging" one day with some specially tailored sagging jeans. When he went to bed, I snuck into his room, and threw his "sagging jeans" into a roaring fireplace!
I think he got the hint.

When guys would be released from jail they have lost a few pounds, but they are wearing the same clothes.. the cool guy fit prison guy look.. so even with belts.. the sag gives you that fresh from the pen look and swagger.

the look with shoe laces undone or missing is for the same reason.. hastily replaced laces into the shoes upon release..
