I have a Irda dongle hooked up to my pc, is there any program that I can use to get pronto codes from the remote on my pc?

From what remote?

If you simply want to know what an IR signal looks like, and you don't want to buy a real Pronto, you could buy a cheap "One For All" JP1 remote and JP1 cable and get the data that way.

Alternatively, you could make a device like this...
