I have a Sony DVD recorder.....a RDR-VX530 and I am attempting to use the 'satellite receiver control' function but the DirectTV satellite receiver equipement (not a recorder) has no manufacturer name associated with it.I need that info to enter the proper 'satellite receiver brand code' during set-up.I have had the DirectTV equip> for almost two years (if they have changed equip> since then?) I have searched the I-net and, to date,I have been unsuccessful in my endeavor to find any pertinent information.Anyone out there have any info to help? Much appreciation and thanks .

It dosn't matter who makes your Directv receiver anymore, because no matter who makes it it uses the same codeset. A codeset only directv branded receivers ever used. So if you tried all receiver codes listed under Directv, then you're out of luck.

The only oem remotes with preset code for the current directv receivers are only made by UEI, the maker of white directv remotes. They are not letting it out to other remote manufacturers. Universal remote makers yes, not oem remote makers, no.

Nobody knows more about the white directv remotes then , me. : ) I have answered close to 3000 posts dealing with white remotes alone.

If I wanted to ask about further info/possibilities for programming this white remote, where would you suggest I post that would get an audience if not here?

I am also interested to know if anyone has ever offered services to electonically "modify" remotes so they could do a few more things than from the box. i.e if the buttons are good but the functions are not, is there anything that can be done short of a complete new design?

Where would I post that question?

thanks,
ep
