Thanks djy - you never disappoint. As I clicked the "Post Reply" button on that post I made sure I had the words "one of" in it, 'cause I felt sure you would prove me wrong if I'd said the Tobacco Mosaic Virus chemical name was the longest!

What drives me nuts is when people say "I axed a question" instead of "asled".

Where did that start anyway?!

Or when people produce "statistics" as "satistics"!!!

Does anyone have any discreet codes for my remote? DISCRETE, dude!

I just got a new camera. Would you like to see my pitchers? PICTURES??

Can you take that steak out of the freezer? We need to unthaw it. FREEZE AGAIN?

Do you see what I'm saying? (No, but I do hear it.) Maybe if your breath is bad enough I can see what you are saying.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

The one that's kiling me at the moment is people saying "of" instead of "have". It normally comes up when people are abbreviating the word "have" with " 've".

Example:

Correct - "We should not have done that"
Incorrect - "We should not of done that"

Another is the incorrect phrase "Could care less"

This really gets me. People use this term to express that they do not care about something. In that sense, the correct phrase would be "Couldn't care less", meaning I could not care any less about the topic than I currently do.

Example:

Correct - "I couldn't care less about ----------"
Incorrect - "I could care less about ----------"

AAARRRGGGHHH!!!! It hurts even to type it as an example!!!

There's a lot more where that came from.

Robbie.

(Nice thread btw)

edit- Sorry, just realised the "could care less" bit has been done. Oh well.

One of the biggest offenders of this one would be the illustrious George Dubya.
