Ok, it's soon going to be my wife and my 10th anniversary. I'm thinking about a strand of pearls for her, but am an idiot when it comes to jewelry purchasing. I thought since we have so many people here, there may be someone who is a jeweler or knowledgable about jewelry. I would love some pointers on how to know what to buy as far as pearls are concerned. They all look the same, and there's no model numbers for research like in electronics. Why can't women just like a 60" plasma like us?

Sorry Marky, I personally have no clue, but this may help you not get taken advantage of.

Nope, sorry.
What do you mean you wanted it on the other wall - couldn't you have mentioned this when we prewired?

Thanks guys. Thought I'd take a chance and see if anyone here knew anything about it. I hate buying jewelry. Thanks for the link smokinghot.

Looks like a nice place dj. I think I've got the one I want. I went and picked it up today. I've got another store bringing in some pearls on Thursday. I'll compare them both, and keep the one I want. BTW, WTH is a dogsbody?

Oh yes, a wonderfully atmospheric place, though by the looks it, it's now gone down market somewhat. Along with the obvious jewellery they did Elliot Timepieces (clocks), Royal Worcester limited editions (porcelain figurines), various ranges of high quality glassware, Omega and Tissot Watches. Indeed it's where I bought my Omega Constellation - way back in the dark ages of the mid seventies. And yes, I still have it and it still works and keeps time a treat, though I must confess I don't wear it every day

My duties included:
  • Sorting the letters (first and second class and registered - the latter now being know as Special Delivery).

  • Sorting the packages and parcels (and quite often packing them).

  • Keeping abreast of the stamp book. (Every Monday I'd go to the Post Office and buy numerous denomination of stamps, but only once did I ever manage to get stamp account to tally - too many people would help themselves and not log it).

  • Keeping abreast of the stock levels of paper (wrapping and tissue - the latter comprising of two types; cheap and expensive) and also the various type gift box.

  • General cleaning - vacuum the carpet, dust the display cases every night

  • Other cleaning - display silverware, stockroom sorting etc.

  • General errands - e.g. go to a diy/hardware store to get bits for window displays (we had quite a talented salesman that did it all the design and construction himself).

  • And finally, during the summer months I could earn an extra 7/6d (seven shillings and sixpence - around 37p in today's money) buy opening and closing the sun blinds on a Sunday.
