What European City does the river Tiber run through?

Last night I had the misfortune to overhear this question being asked of a couple of women on one of those cheesy game shows. Between them they came up with Paris, but they didn't think it was right as they thought Paris was on the Rhine.

And the Government still persist in telling us that education, in this country, isn't being dumbed down.

Indeed it is, but the point I was trying to make was that not only did they not know the Tiber runs through Rome, they were obviously not aware that the Seine runs through Paris and the Rhine runs predominately through Germany, though there is a southern stretch that forms a part of the border between France and Germany. It's what I would consider to be basic secondary school (11-16) geography; a bit like Americans being taught the states (commonwealths) and Capitals thereof*.

*As a matter of interest, some years ago, when she was still at school, the daughter asked us that very question. The wife and I managed to get into the forties, which I thought was pretty reasonable considering it was "off the top of our heads".

Duh, doesn't everyone know what river runs through Paris? It's not the left and right banks of the Rhine, at least I sure hope not.

And I've never even been to Rome, or Paris for that matter.

I know of a few people who've been "through" Paris, but never a river......... ;-)
