Me thinks they know little of Daleks if they thought removing the plunger arm would "remove its destructive mechanism"!

I knew this was a mistake; my grip on reality's not too good at the best of times. Glitz, in "The Ultimate Foe"

Ah yes, these latter day Daleks are a little tougher, but alas I'm old enough to recall the originals; what wimps they were.

Yup, they needed a metal surface to travel on and had a definite wobble as they moved. Still my favourite alien baddie!

And to show how antique I am, I watched the first Dr Who episode in November 1963 – just after the news of the assassination of US President Kennedy – all in it’s glorious black and white. Still hooked today!

I must confess it was only years later that I realised the first episode was transmitted the day after Kennedy's assasination; well I was only eight at the time. However, I still vividly remember Susan's teachers, Ian and Barbara, following her home and finding the Tardis in a junkyard.

PS
There's reams of Doctor Who information and trivia on Wikipedia; e.g. the original transmission date was set for the 16th November, but was put back due to technical difficulties - the doors of the Tardis not closing properly being one of them.
