I post on lots of other forums but this is the only one where I do not know how to post a hyperlink to another web page. Can somebody please show me how?

I also need instructions for adding bold, italics, underline, colors etc. Thanks!

Just post the URL. Otherwise, you can use standard HTML formatting. See: [Link: remotecentral.com]

Thanks, but that is not quite what I was looking for. What I mean is, how do I post a URL such as [Link: remotecentral.com] but have it look like "FAQ"?

In most other forums the process is:
[url=[Link: remotecentral.com]]FAQ[/url]
and the end result will be a clickable link that looks like this

Firstly this is not most other forums its the best! ;)
The Faq tells you you can use basic HTML.. your used to using ubb code on other forums, yes ubb is simple but you can do more things with the way Daniel has set up this site.
at the top left of each post are the words "edit post" even if its not your post you can see what they typed .
This will show you what they typed to make clickys or many other effects see my clicky below.

Hope this helps ,I know it seems more complicated at first but you soon get used to it.

The format you are referring to is called vBcode or bbcode. That code is used by web sites that don't let you use real HTML, the code gets translated into real HTML on the web sites server.

Here at Remote Central you are allowed to use real HTML, so there isn't support for bbcode. If you don't know how to write HTML here's an example of how to format the kind of link that you're looking for. Alternatively, you can always click on "Edit Post" on any of our posts to see how we do the links that we post.

Thank you for the info. I have to say that I do prefer the vBcode (or bbcode) method - probably because that's what I am used to. I appreciate the tutorial!

Give it a while and you'll find you can do a lot more here than on almost any other forum; e.g.

I echo what djy says.

I was somewhat intimidated at first, but now can HTML quite comfortably for my needs!

I agree with djy and Greg.

If you want to make something hard you can also use standard web tools to make it

(for example add stuff in word then use save as html and then copy the HTML code

I'd be careful about what Anthony said, though....... look at what the HTML code produced in his signature.

...

What's up with that?

I agree, but that depends on how often I will actually post here. I mean, RemoteCentral.com and the Forums are great but, for me, (and I am not an installer - just a novice user) I tend to post here only when I am looking for specific info. I highly doubt that I'll ever get 1000++ posts.

Thank you all again for the helpful tips!

Ha ha! I started off like that, a bit of a novice, now look at me . . .

What an improvement.

same here, not an installer, just a guy looking to buy a remote for a conference room at work to make it more user friendly. That was in 99. Since then I think I have been back a few times.
