I recently purchased a digital ICD-MS1 SONY Voice recorder, and the SONY MSAC-US1 USB Memory card reader. (After doing research, and confirming that SONY says it will work on my PC) For Voice Over interviews for my videos.
I couldn't get the reader to work, and, after 5 phone calls to Tech support was told it is defective and to contact the dealer. Because it was deemed defective, the dealer replaced the unit. The second one wouldn't work either. More phone calls to SONY checking and double checking all possibilities, and then they diagnose that the unit is not compatible with my computer. They tell me again to return it to the dealer, but with the package being opened, and the unit not defective, the dealer won't take it back. (Rightfully so I think)
I just get a runaround from SONY..... It's not their problem.
I was given phone numbers to call, that went nowhere, or to unrelated departments.
A tech supervisor claims to be checking with engineering....will get back to me....Yadda ...Yadda Weeks go by ....voice mail unreturned.
I have since bought the Floppy reader, and it works fine. SONY makes this USB product and advertises it to work with certain computers...I have one of those computers....SONY should make good on it. I have offered to exchange it for an extra Memory Stick of equal value, with no reply.
I may be out the $70 but I intend to distribute broadly my dissatisfaction, and ultimately SONY will lose more than I will. If this reaches any SONY people that give a damn, you can refer to Event Number E 13437881 for the history.

ccontact the dealer and ask him or her if there is a restocking fee ? Pay that. Any reputable retailer should have good enough relationship with sony to return product to them. And even if not they could sell it as "previously loved" like the referbished pda I got at fry's for $99. instead of $299.Sony center in Burbank here does all the time.
