Does anyone know the location of the IR window on this unit? There is nothing to be said about it on the manual, and I can't find anything online. On every device I have there is a red-glass IR window, except for this thing. I need to know where to place my IR emitter.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, but that is not anything like what my DVR looks like.

The whole front is almost one solid piece of metal. There is a door for the card, the 5-way buttons and the Tivo button. While there are two LED's in front, the only possible "window" I see is the center Select button. It is a white, semi-opaque, round button. Could that be it? Strange.

Funny thing is, I am getting a response from the unit, even though the front is completely blocked by an object! However, the response is definitely slower since I moved it there.

Interesting. All the pics. of a 704 that I've found look exactly the same as the 708 Edmund has already linked to. Indeed, it looks like the only difference between the two is the size of the hard drive; 40GB for the 704 and 80GB for the 708.

Hmmm. Wonder why that is? I pulled the model right off the sticker from the box. I will dig behind the unit to see if there is any other info. It is definitely a Philips and definitely different from that 708 pict.

Yes it is the opaque window in the middle of soccer ball looking directional keys. I have a RCA DVR80, DVR40, and R10 that look like yours. But the philips dsr 708 & 704 all supposed to look like the image I posted, which are the best looking Dtivos ever.

OK. This is freaky.

I looked up the RCA and R10 images, and that is exactly what I have. But mine is clearly a Philips!! I bought it for my parents about two years ago and they gave it to me after I later upgraded them to the HR10-250. I have all the original packaging still, including the D* manual that says "Philips" on the cover.

Anyway, thank you so much for the advise. I will stick the emitter over that button when I get home. I still don't understand how it is picking up a signal while completely blocked, but I won't question it too much.
