remoteshoppe ..you teach jiu jitsu...cool ,how
different is brazillian jiu jitsu the stuff you
see in UFC etc in your opinion from the art you
teach?

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu concentrates more on the grappling aspect of the art and is just a small part of what I do. We emphasize self defense more than compettition and you don't want to end of on the ground in the middle of a NY alley if you don't have to. I've trained with Royce Gracie (the original UFC champ) and his older brother Rorion and they are both very dedicated martial artists. I respect what they've started with the UFC but even they will tell you that there's a lot more to their art... they're just showing the stuff that people pay for.

The Jiu Jitsu I train in is a combination of two Japanese styles. One with very traditional flowing movements and the other with more combative self defense work. The best example in popular culture may be Steven Segal in "Above the Law" but I am even reluctant to use that as an example because the comparison is to the TECHNIQUES that Segal did in that film as opposed to Segal himself (anyone remember the clothesline technique on the boat).

5-but my wife did study Brazilian jiu jitsu! Its
called capoeira.

FYI- Capoeira is a Brazilian martial art descended from Africa and it is not Jiu Jitsu. The Gracie's art is Brazilian Jii Jitsu and has been adapted directly from the Japanes art.

I tried the motorcycle to work thing.

I live too close to work.

It doesn't even fully warm up in the 5 minutes it takes to get there!

You mean like CEDIA, CES, etc.?

3, Camping. I haven't made it out this year.

It's been 5 yrs for me .

4, Fishing

I fish wires everyday!

5, Sleeping! Can't get enough sleep!

What is this sleep thing you speak of?
Every day is a good day.......some are just better than others!

Proud to say that my property is protected by a high speed wireless device!

I already know quite a bit about myself, and I'd rather the forum tell ME 5 things about myself that I don't know. It could be eye opening! ;-)

1) your contribution to the site are appreciated by most of us (keep up the good work) and you would be missed if you stop posting

2) some of us still remember when you were not the Home Theater Master Expert but just regular Joe looking for a remote

3) even though button pushing made you fall in love with HTM (starting with the MX 500) I think you have mellowed with age

4) You influenced me into showing my email (I asked you once if it was a problem with Spam and other unsolicited email and you said no)

5) If you ever come to Montreal you are welcome to look me up and we can go out for some beers (this is true for every regular here)
