I am helping my father in law re-do his entertainment system. He has all his components behind a cabinet and has IR extenders going to each component. Here is my question....

Some of the component have an IR sensor on a component that is the red while some have some that have the little glass ball. Is there any difference in these two and do they both receive and send the same type signal. I am sure this is a basic question but I am not sure the difference.

The reason I ask is that I need to add a few of these and not sure whether I need the red ones or the glass ball type or it doesn't matter.

Thanks for your time.

I don't really know much about IR extenders, but I encourage you to repost this in the Home Theater Forum. The Intermission Forum is usually where stupid things are posted and do not get serious replies.

The opposite holds true for most other forums on this website.

It would also be of help if you could give brands and model numbers for the equipment that you are using. It is of great help to give this information so that we can help you.

Be prepared to get some critism for posting in this area. But I encourage you to repost in the Home Theater Forum, which can be found here. I believe that your questions will be answered.

We all do from time to time, but I'll still drink to it.
