Stupid thing is just over warranty - cost me $170... and died. I replaced the battery, fully charged it - and still nothing! It's plugged into phone line and outlet - but says out of range, beeps, and is complete phasing in & out static when I'm sitting right next to the dang thing! Any ideas, suggestions, help, or related problems???????

Not sure about the exact model, but mine has done the exact same thing for months. Typically I can go about 5-10 minutes on a call before it starts to exhibit these symptoms. I haven't fixed it yet.

Cool being that someone can relate to a rip-off, and it also being you (bad luck for you and I though!!). I caleld support and it'll costa fortune to have it sent back and fixed. I don't know what the problem is. I actually went as far as to take it apart and see if all connections were stable, antennas still connected - everything is fine. I don't get it?!?!?!

Seems to me that there's a bad chip in there that is/has overheated. I notice some strange coloration on the LCD's plastic window that seems heat related.

Mine has been doing the same thing off and on for the last few months. I returned two others because of static and other problems. I think this model is a dog.

Sow hat's the fix - send it back and pay an arm and a leg - or basically pay a little more and get a new one? I don't know how well Panasonic works with their out of warranty items.

Same thing happened to me. Sent mine in to be fixed (static problems) about 6 months after I bought it. The problem cleared up after that, but just about 6 months later (right after my warranty was up), the problem came back. And Panasonic didn't want to warrant their warranty work they did on it. Once the original warranty is up, you're screwed. Needless to say, I bought a different brand phone.

The most reliable phones we have ever used are made by Nortel. They seem very durable and last almost forever. They are not cheap new, but can be had at good prices as a factory rebuilts. Unfortunately, I am not aware of any cordless models that they build.

Nortel's "Maestro" product line includes cordless phones. I've had 2 of those and they are very good. I still use one of their (corded) Meridian phones in my computer room.

Here's info on the Maestro 900 DSS.

I've owned the 900 DSS as well as the Maestro 4600. Both were very good. Back when I worked for Southwestern Bell (*cringe*), we got good deals on Northern Telecom products. :-)
