Who Will You Leave It To?

This thought came about when the owner of my local Radio Shack died in a car accident last month. He was about 50, healthy, and the sole proprietor of my favorite store.

The store is now closed, because as owner (no, this wasn't a Tandy company store) and young he had left no instructions for the sale or perpetuation of the store in the case that he died. The courts are figuring it out.

I'm a gadget guru. 43. I've got electronic toys that make all the men in my neighborhood drool, and makes their wives not let them come over to play. But I've no kids (which is why I could afford the toys) and a wife who is happy with just a TV and a VCR. If I died today, my toys would probably be sold for scrap just to "get them out of the house".

So my new years resolution is to "mentor" a nephew or niece (I have dozens) if I can find one that has a similar interest in gadgets. They'll be in the will. "Everything electronic that my wife doesn't want goes to (niece or nephew)".

Who will you leave YOUR toys to?

I figure that by the time I die (which I hope is a long way away), my toys could be sold as "quaint" museum peices.

Just like we look back at our parents/grandparents stuff, and think - geez! How could you watch that TV? our kids/grandkids (or neices and nephews), will look at our stuff and wonder how we watched non-holographic, brain stimulating devices...

Point is Kolya, you could die today. (No bad will here, just fact). Who would you want to get your stuff tomorrow?

If I died today (or simply won the lotto and wanted to give it all away - a preferrable scenario to me), I would probably give it all to my daughter to be (due any day now!)
