President Bush has collided with a local police officer during a bike ride at the G8 summit at Gleneagles in Scotland.
The American leader suffered scrapes on his hands and arms while the officer was taken to a local hospital.
White House spokesman Scott McClellan said it had been raining lightly when Mr Bush slid off the road.
He had been going at a "pretty good speed", Mr McClellan said.
Mr Bush suffered scrapes and was bandaged by the White House physician. His bicycle was damaged and he had to return from the ride in a van.
The officer was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.
Mr McClellan said the extent of the officer's injuries was not known but he may have an ankle injury.
The officer, who was on a security detail, is a member of the Strathclyde police department.
Mr Bush reportedly plans to call him later to see how he is doing.
The fall did not affect the president's schedule and he joined other world leaders at a dinner hosted by the Queen.

Well what else would you expect, from someone who drives on the wrong side of the road.

You now know he will take it as an attempt on his life and in a few months he will discover WMD's and links to terrorism in the UK and bomb the hell out of you.

Anthony I'll forgive your poorly timed joke. I'm getting use to the Bush/Blair jokes. Some are quite funny! It's unfortunate that it played out this way. More innocent people are dead. Anyone getting tired of terrorism yet?!

pilgram: I don't really feel like getting in to this at this time, a tragic event has just happened and really anything we say now won't change the past. But suffice it to say that I think the war on Iraq was also horrendous and a lot of innocent people died because of it and it did zilch to stop terrorism. An eye for an eye is never the solution because all that can happen is in the end that everyone is blind. The terrorists might be dumb and want to take out on the world their anger and might not be able to see the difference between the people they hate and the rest of the world, but what is our excuse. If we hate terrorists then we should go after them with all we got. But deciding to blow up a country because it might have terrorists in it or because it might have WMDs in it and those WMDs might be sold to terrorism (especially a country that was watched and that had no indication of WMDs) to me was wrong and I think probably pissed off a few more people off that want revenge because their relative or friend died because of a senseless act of violence.
Again my joke was extremely badly timed and to that I apologise. But I don't apologise for my beliefs. I know (from the other thread) that you think positively of the war on Iraq, and from your comments here and there that you think that countries that did not join did so either from cowardice or interest. But let me ask you this. If it was cowardice why did all those countries join that war on Afghanistan or the first gulf war? and if it was interest why was it most countries in the world that were against it and even the countries that joined in had a large or larger proportion of people against it. Why did my country (Canada) not join? we have stood beside the US in every other war and we have no interests in Iraq?.....

I remember many stories of American fund raising events for Irish freedom fighters the IRA. It's funny how opinion changes when things happen to you. One person’s freedom fighter is another ones terrorist. Meeting force with massive force never seems to work. Once the UK government started talking to these groups and taking the criminal element out of the equation and got to the real issues these groups have less to be angry about because they have a say in there and our futures. Yes there is still along way to go but the IRA bombs have stopped.
What makes people feel so desperate that it seems a good idea to strap a bomb to yourself? Going in to Iraq with no evidence of WMD and just because Sadam was a bad leader only made certain elements feel stronger and feel more justified to strap bombs to them. I don’t see us invading North Korea with its WMD and bad leaders.
Terrorists or guerrilla fighters always will have the element of surprise and by there very nature do not fight by the normal rules..You could train to be a kungfu expert but there is no defence to a surprise Baseball Bat around the head.
I can’t think of a major war where a massive force won this type of conflict against those sorts of tactics, they just keep coming back.
Although the loss of people close to us makes us want revenge I feel we have to rise above it and start to get an understanding of why these people want to fight or bomb us, it’s easy to label them as evil and religious zealots. Understanding, compromise and love are better weapons in my mind than sending vast armies of our sons and daughters to foreign lands or being so terrified in our own homes that security becomes so invasive and common place.

Well, everybody has the right to their opinion. That's one of the reasons America is hated so much, not everybody believes in personal freedoms.

By the way, there's a guy living on the street over from me who goes out at night and rapes the women on his street and kills their husbands, then burns their house down after robbing the valuables. Fortunately for me, he doesn't touch my street, so I don't need to get invoved - it's their problem on that street, not mine, and I'm sure he's content to stay there and not bother me. I heard that he has a lot of assault weapons, but it's just a rumor - no one has found them yet.

Well my little liberal friends. I cant believe some of this drival in here. Oh well to each his own. We're all entitled to our point of view, no matter how skewed.
The cost of action is small compared to the cost of inaction.
Your WMDs eneded up over in Libya. Ever wonder why Quadafi, the nut case, decided to place nice all of a sudden with the US? He didn't like the thoughts of the rat hole like his little friend Saddam.

The cost of action is small compared to the cost of inaction. Well if we are going to be throwing around inane statements how about for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Another assinine statement...we going to fight them there so they can't fight here. Unless you are a total prick London is part of here...so so much for that theory.

for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. I learned that in grade school. And it is true! Call me the 'reaction'. I'm a peaceful man, never started a fight in my life! But I have 'ended' quite a few! An eye for an eye may seem like an irresponsable aproach but, it's the only thing they understand! It sucks that you have to drop to there level to fight them, but, they don't understand anything else! I'm still waiting on the 'perfect world' and I hope I see it in my lifetime. I would much rather discuss our differences than KILL innocent people to prove my point! As long as there are 'people' threatening me,I'll be a 'fighter'!
