OK many centuries ago St-Malachy wrote a bunch of prophecies basically enumerating the popes to come using a code word. Depending on who you believe there was 111 or 112 of them and according to most people Pope John Paul II was De labore Solis and number # 110

now that left 111: Gloria olivę

and possibly 112 that is

In persecutione extrema S.R.E. sedebit Petrus Romanus, qui pascet oves in multis tribulationibus: quibus transactis civitas septicollis diruetur, & Judex tremźdus judicabit populum suum. Finis.

or in translation

In extreme persecution, the seat of the Holy Roman Church will be occupied by Peter the Roman, who will feed the sheep through many tribulations, at the term of which the city of seven hills will be destroyed, and the formidable Judge will judge his people. The End.

--------

now Gloria olivę means glory of the olives.

also Saint Benedict himself prophesied that before the end of the world his Order, known also as the Olivetans, will triumphantly lead the Catholic Church in its fight against evil.

now is it coincidence that he picked Benedict XVI as his name or are we at the last or before last pope before the end of something? Who knows.

-----------------

now assuming the predictions are real and all it gets a bit messy. From 1-111 all you got was a short description like De labore Solis or Gloria olivę also the predictions surfaced 4 centuries after they were written. Some people think 112 was just added (by Benedictine monks), others think 112 is JC as described in the apocalypse and 111 is the last Pope. Others ask does 112 follow right after 111 or not (they were not numbered that way in the predictions, so in theory even if 111 does come before 112 is there place for 111b, 11c or other Popes between what is thought as 111 and 112

St-Malachy could have been right so far and now this is as far as he could see.
I genuinely feel after the latest popes pasing we will see a fundimental change.I have no evidence to base this on just a gut feeling and feel it will be a change for the good even though it may be seen as a bad thing.
The church has seen suddenly the desire of 1.1 billion catholics to mourn the passing of the last pope .
How often does religion strike a note through the news to ordinary folk?
When a pope dies they all turn up to show there faith ,never turn up on a sunday but there for a televised funeral.but this does mean money on plates.
Dieing popes get bums on seats.
How old should the new guy be ohh yeah GOD wants a 78 year old.
not long before mo money on plates.
My faith is based on me and my relationship with God .no church,System or ritual is going to change that.i have faith! no colour of smoke is going to make me feel differently.
My childen are brought up as christians but i teach them to respect all faiths as we all have the same goals..

By the way St-Malachy did not actually name the 112 pope did he?I think i read it was the coming of the son of the lord ( which some say is JC)?

Bob, just having some fun

there are a lot of questions about the writings

1) did he really write them, the predictions only showed up 4 centuries after he supposedly wrote them, the ones before they became public are extremely precise the rest are more vague

2) did someone add the 112th prediction, unlike the rest it is more verbal on stuff that is not Pope related.

3) there is a name that is given "Petrus Romanus" now who that person is going to be is a different story

4) the question becomes if he saw the next 111 (or 112) why did he not see further? end of the earth? end of the papacy? corruption of the world (i.e. the rest are not popes in his mind because they are not holding to the word of God)

5) if I remember the apocalypse correctly it says that there will be an antichrist that will bring people astray and that Christ shows at the end. (I guess I will have to read it again) so the questions are

a) are all his Popes pre everything?
b) Is any of them the antichrist?
c) is any of them Christ?

, and let's face it it is easy to make a short prediction fit once the facts are known.

Every year I get a little older and the only thing I'm really sure of is that the end of my world is getting near! ( I'm 43)

If the world ends tomorrow, I'll be very sad! And look back on the good times I've had.

If If make it to 86 and die, I'll be sad. And look at everything I wish I had done different!

Tight race!

I prefer to take it one day at a time.

I believe in GOD, and trust that whatever happens was meant to be.

Now, where did I put my beer!
Every day is a good day.......some are just better than others!

Well, I guess that means I've got 24 more years of workin' ahead of me. :-)

I guess I'll always look at my glass as 'half full'

As long as I can survive the next two years of my teenager, I think everything will be allright!

Why worry. In your next life it'll probably have missed.

the Mayan calendar ends in 2012...

The sun is in a cooling cycle...

Contrary to popular belief, glaciers are expanding almost everywhere

we have all-time high underwater volcanic activity which is heating the oceans... heated oceans evaporate water, which turns to precipitation. Precipitation = rain in the summer, snow in the winter. If we catch a very wet winter soon, we'll see at the best, a mini ice age, and at the worst, a major ice age.

my advice... Move south in 2011- far, far south (ice ages don't seem to affect the southern hemisphere as badly as they do the north, except for that one time the entire globe was a frozen ball of ice for a million years...)
