Does time as we know it exist?

Sure we created the second, the day and the year but what good are they it if they are different at all points in the solar system and universe.

So what is it?

It's a bit existential, but if you take the universe as we know it and subtract us from the equation, I will argue that yes, time will still exist. We do not need to be there to name it or perceive it any more than we have to see a circle for it to be round (even if we aren't there to call it a circle, it still exists.

Does MATH exist if we aren't there? Yes. sure we even if we arent there to figure it out, 1 + 1 will still equal 2.

The earth will still take a period to rotate, that's time
The light will still travel at a speed from point A to point B the measure in between? It's time

We can't shake it any more than we can make it.

no, not if you don't want it. economists tell us that 1+1>2 in the idea that the combination of two companies should be greater then their combined assets

and electronics and electricity tell us that 1+1=0 take a light switch flipping= adding one so if it is off (0) and I flip it (+1) I get power on (1) if it is on (1) and I flip it (+1) I turn the light off (0) so we have

1+0=1
0+1=1
0+0=0
1+1=0

and that is how electronics (PCs work ) and why people use BIN and HEX notation

I can take that argument for argument's sake, but we are talking apples and oranges. Your comparing of flipping switches to simple math is all washed up, and your economic example is even worse.
You and I both know that 1 rock as it is a rock plus another rock as nothing more than a rock equals two rocks in their most simple forms

Getting back to the dimensional subject matter--TIME, I have heard the argument that there is neither the future nor the past, but only the very instant that we call the "now" It is the now in which all is perceived, all is accomplished, etc. However, tying back into space, without time, our inevitable dimensional friend, we have no infinite universe, no "what's on the other side" because there would be no other side, only this point at which we exist and no other.
But wait, aren't time and space like cousins? No, more like Father and Son. Getting creepy. Can't have one without the other.
But to straighten this out let me just say that one dimension (space) breeds the other dimension (time) simultaneously. You can't have one without the other even though they are relative to some degree, as different as they are,......they are inexplicably bonded.
We're still trying to figure that out aren't we.

I am astounded by the ability of so many to stray from a topic so quickly and so easily.

As if the pondering of time itself was not nearly difficult enough to fathom, some would rather add the pure meaning of existence to the platter which I think is becoming more of a pot....a pot full of stew which is what I start to do when this happens to an otherwise interesting thread.
Not that "the definition of life" isn't a good topic, I think it's a GREAT topic.
