There sure have been a lot of negative reviews floating around about this movie. I even read a sarcastic, and very lengthy review on the Web yesterday; considering how much the guy spit on the movie, he seemed to go on for an awfully long time. In fact, I get the feeling he is under 30 and has no emotions about the war at all. He even flamed President Roosevelt for getting up out of his wheelchair to make a point to the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Well, I went to see it last night. Pearl Harbor is an EXCELLENT Hollywood Movie. In the best tradition of war movies. Action, characters, lots of stars, good love story, emotion, pathos, suspense, etc. In fact, the only thing I didn't like was the Political Correctness: referring to those "Jap bastards" instead of something more realistic like "yellow bastards", the way the old war movies did. (Note that I am not attempting to be racist: if it was a movie about slavery, you can call me a "whitey" or a "honkey" or whatever derogatory term you can think of... in the context of the movie.)

The battle scenes are amazing, truly amazing. And yet they don't appear to be anything but realistic, so you don't sit there going "wow, great FX".

The acting is the best from everyone, and there is no sappy loveline, and there are no hokey "proud to be an American" lines.

You should go and enjoy this movie. ... MovieMike

When you gross $76 million dollars for your first weekend, who cares what some critic says anyway!!!

I certainly plan on going to see it! Thanks for the mini-review, Mike.

The guy on KTLA said it was a good movie and that the specical effects etc were first rate. The one thing that he hated was the fact that you don't really care about the charcters in the film.

You don't really care who dies because there isn't really any charcter development.

Otherwise a great film.

Sounds like the traditional "summer blockbuster": they ran out of money for the plot after all the special effects. Wonder what JP III will be like... :-)

I have to disagree to some extent. I thought the story was weak and overdrawn. They could easily have cut 40 minutes out of the first half of this movie and not lost anything. However, the acting was good and the attack itself is spectacular and very historically accurate. I had the good fortune to see this movie with some Pearl Harbor survivors, and they said the chaos of the attack was perfectly depicted. BTW, they said they wished the nurses they met there partied like the ones in the movie. ;-)

If you can make it through the first half, the second half is a must see!
