I have purchased a pioneer a035 dvd rom and also the sigma real magic mpeg2 decoder card. I have a pentium II 333mhz with 128 meg ram, do I need the decoder card as dvd plays back perfectly well without it.

Well, a P-II 333 is a bit slow for DVD playback. The typical recommended speed is at least 400 - however if it's working, then no I don't think you'll need the decoder card. The only case where you might is if you're playing certain DVD-ROM discs that require a "compatible" playback device. Most software solutions don't yet fall under that catagory.
