How do I hook up a different remote to an esa dp 3220 dvd player? Someone gave me the dvd player without the original remote. I would prefer not to order a new remote.

This is not practical. You're essentially asking how to take an audio recording that's in English and make it understandable to a person who only speaks some other language.

You'd have to reverse engineer the IR pickup and command structure of the receiver, then design in another system of your choosing. A replacement remote must be cheaper by thousands of dollars.

I just checked and saw one of these players, used, with remote, for sale at amazon.com for $22.00. Get a new one. Abandon this model and get a better one. I do agree though -- don't buy a replacement remote because it will probably be $60!
We can't give you a good answer, or maybe any, without the make and model of everything.

I agree that buying a replacement remote isn't cost effective, and it probably isn't worth buying even a cheap universal remote to try to find the right setup codes.

But if you have a Comcast remote, or an Atlas that other cable companies supply, or Radio Shack models 15-100/133/134/135/2133/2138/2144, OneForAll models URC-6131/6690/6820/8820/9960/10820, Cox 7820B, or RCA RCRP05B, then try Setup code Video (DVD, VCR, PVR, etc.) 0821.

There is a reasonable chance that 0821 will work.

If you don't have one of those laying around, try any universal remote with Funai, Magnavox, Sylvania, or Emerson setup codes.

I doubt that it is worth spending any money on a universal remote for this, but if you do want to buy one, the RCA RCRP05B is probably still on sale at Walgreen for $8 or $9, and is a good bet to have a working setup code.
