I'd like the flexibility to have my audio play either through my TV (KDL-40V4100) via the HDMI connection or through my non-HDMI receiver (STR-DE595) via optical.

In a difficult conversation with Sony support the answer was that when an optical connection is made no audio is sent via HDMI. I asked if it would still override the HDMI audio signal if the receiver is off and couldn't get an answer.

I know I could just try it but before I go through the grief of getting access to connections in my very cramped home theater set-up I thought I'd ask. :)

Bob

Edit: In case anyone else might be interested the answer from Sony Support was incorrect. Multiple (even simultaneous) audio output works just fine.
