What do people think is the best blu-ray player in this price category (other than the PS3)?

NOT the Sharp one that they're giving away with purchase of new Sharp LCDs.

I really like the Pioneer BDP-51 or the Elite BDP-05. Basically the same unit, but the Elite has a longer warranty.

The Panasonic BD55. Unfortunately discontinued before the replacement is shipping.

Anything from the panasonic line after the BD-30. Great players, fast, reliable + great picture.

The Samsung BDP-2550 is not a bad option near the bottom of that price range for features but the Elite stuff is probably the best for PQ.

I'm waiting for an Elite with network/Live (and doesn't cost an arm and a leg).

LG BD300, For the money it's great. I love mine with netflix and youtube. Cinemanow to be added soon. One of the few to put the usb port on the front and plays photos and music well. It was the one piece of equipment that my wife is happy I bought in the past few years.
You have reached my voicemail. I will be out of the office until you stop calling.

The new Oppo is shaping up to the be best in class: [Link: hometheaterforum.com]

I hear it loads discs faster than PS3 (although a bit slower on seeks and menu operations).
