bare with me on this!!!!
i have a onkyo 875 av amp and a ps3
ps3 connected via cord 1.3 hdmi and then amp to screen via 1.3 hdmi
set ps3 to pcm via hdmi and optical
play a normal dvd on ps3 can get 5.1 through the optical when set to pcm but cant get 5.1 through the hdmi?
but when playing a bluray dvd cant get 5.1 through optical or hdmi when set to pcm!!
im confused as i thought u can get 5.1 through hdmi or optical through hdmi or optical then set to pcm!!
some one help me?!!!! aaaaarrrrhhhh
ps.have no problem at all when the ps3 is set to bitstream for 5.1 via hdmi or optical for both formats(bluray or dvd)

You can't get 5.1 or 7.1 PCM through Optical; when you set it to PCM you'll only get 2.0 (which your receiver may be expanding using Pro Logic). Optical is really only useful for bitstream.
As for HDMI, make sure that you've gone through the HDMI audio detection process on the PS3. There will be a screen that shows all formats that your HDMI receiver claims it is capable of.

hi m8,yer i ticket all the boxes on the ps3 for hdmi settings from dolby dig,2.1 pcm,5.1 pcm,7.1 pcm etc but still no 5.1 through hdmi when set to pcm?
also if i set ps3 to bitstream through hdmi and listen to the pcm sound strack on the bluray disc my amp(onkyo 875) the pcm symbol comes up on the amp!
is the amp out putting pcm even though on the ps3 i have set hdmi to bitstream?
im so confused!!! please help? cheers

Did you manually tick them or were they already ticked by default after the "auto" process? Because you shouldn't have had to do anything manually.
Ensure the HDMI Audio Out feature on your receiver is set to "off".
