Hello All,

Will this cable work for upconverting? I'm thinking about getting a Oppo 988H player. But my Sony TV only has a DVI input. The main purpose is for the "region free" features.
This is the model & cable: [Link: hkflix.com]

The HKFlix website offers 2 HDMI to DVI cables (3' & 6'). I don't believe the issue will be with the cable. The problem might be if the Oppo can handshake (connect) to your Sony via HDMI to DVI. There isn't anyway to know until you try it. Perhaps you have or can borrow another HDMI device that you can conduct a simple test with?

Thanks Erock1,

That's why I'm getting the $170 player not the $230 player. Plan B is to use the component inputs. The $230 player: [Link: hkflix.com] doesn't have component outputs. Again the "region free" is the reason because of the sound quality of other region dvds. I A/B Fantastic 4: Silver Surfer DTS (region 3) to our reagion 1 dolby digital. What a major difference is sound. It's like receiver vs. separates. But I'll roll the dice on the $170 player with the $23.00 cable.

Good luck 6month. Either way the Oppo players IMHO are an excellent buy for the buck. I would still own one if it weren't for the macro blocking issue that DCDi by Faroudja has with DLP displays.
