Hi All,

I have a 6 yr. old Mits Diamond 65" which is still working very well. However, no DVI or HDMI on this model. Short of replacing the TV, are any of the HD or BD units doing a nice job of upconverting via component?

Thx Dave

Try the Panasonic DMP-BD10A BluRay player, it does an excellent job. I just picked this one up myself and it does a beautiful job over component.

Here is a review link: [Link: reviews.cnet.com]

The Panasonic Blu-ray DMP-BD10A allows you to select your component output from 480i, 480p, 720p or 1080i. It does a beautiful job of playing SD DVD's over component.

Upconverted SD > SD, ergo component only carries SD
BD > upconverted SD, ergo component carries upconverted SD?

The Toshiba will upconvert HD-DVD over component up to 1080i, but will only output DVD's at 480i/p

OK, let's recap: Is this correct?

BD content on a BD player via component can be up to 1080i?
HD content on a HD player via component can be up to 1080i?

Either BD or HD when playing older DVD's will not upconvert via component so both will output only 480i or 480p?

You are correct. For the DVD's only encrypted will not be upconverted, which is most.

BD content on a BD player via component can be up to 1080i?

HD content on a HD player via component can be up to 1080i?

it cannot be 1080p and it can be 1080i but with an *

AACS (encryption on BDs and HD DVDs) has a "feature" called Image Constraint Token (ICT) it is set to off on all movies so far but in theory a movie can come with it flagged to on and if it does then the player is only allowed to send out at around 1/4 the resolution over analog (like Component)

Either BD or HD when playing older DVD's will not upconvert via component so both will output only 480i or 480p?

never tried it
