Just on a whim, and not knowing alot about Karaoke, we recently bought a Vocopro CDG- 888VK, along with a mic, stand, etc. Hooked it up to a Surround Sound System. Here is my first dilema. Upon first inspection, I decided to hook it up in analog, and use a DSP mode. It seems that mikes are analog only. The player has both Digital Optical & Digital Coax out. (the music can therefore be digital). It also has mixed music & mike output either balanced or unbalanced. Well, if I go Digital, I am still going to be analog on the vocals. In addition to that, if I use digital audio for the music, then I am forced to have additional speaker (s) & amp just for the mike vocals. Is it worth it? I haven't yet tried that. For some reason that I don't quite understand, it sounds pretty good in analog. I think its because I enhance the music with DSP Surround, and the vocals have alot of echo, reverb, etc. Should I take the next step, and use Digital audio, and a separate analog mike setup? Is it worth it? I'm using the following gear that may or not matter: ADA PTM- 8150 8 channel amp; B & K Ref 30 Pre/ Proc, Niles HD in Wall Speakers (7.1), with Pinnacle Gold Center channel, HSU TNN- 1220 Subs (2) with HSU rack mount 500 watt Sub amp, JVC SX21 3 chip Dila projector on a 16:9 Dalite Da Snap screen. (120" diagonal screen). I bought a number of CD-G discs by some artists that I like such as U2, The Doors, Pink Floyd, Bon Jovi, Bob Seeger, Journey, etc. Its alot of fun, especially considering that I can't sing a lick, and never have. I would also like your input as to recommendations on any good discs that you might recommend. Thank you.

Well it now looks like no one here knows anything about Karaoke DVD's. No one owns any. I must be the only one, right?

Actually, I was looking for some Karaoke expert to answer my questions above. It doesn't look like I will find that person here. Thanks.

I'll be surprised if the unit doesn't just add the mic input no matter how you have the audio output hooked up. If you've got it, try it, and see what happens.

Recently, I decided to hook up the Karaoke so that the background music played digitally with the Digital Optical Cable. Of course, the music sounds better. Since the vocals are analog, I hooked up another amplifier & 2 additional Center speakers in different parts of the Room. Now it really sounds great. The background music sounds great, and the mike output is much improved. The vocals really punch thru and are coming at you from the front & the back. I love the improvements. Now, if only I could sing! I'll work on that. It can only get better.

As for the actual singing, try moving the gear into the shower. Everyone sounds better singing in the shower, ya know. ;-)
