Engadget reported yesterday on this new product for the PS3. Click here to check it out.

Being an IR remote one should be able to learn the codes to their universal remote of choice controlling the PS3 via the supplied USB IR receiver. Perhaps going this route will provide additional functionality over the current IR PS2 solution people are using.

I thinbk it does, I think I heard of this before (or at least something like it) the only issue (as you can see) the most important thing, power, is not there. The PS3 does not have active USB ports when off so you can't start it from USB. Just BT

That *looks* like it might offer one or two different functions than the current IR remote solution(s), but I don't think it really it does. It seems to merely break the functions out twice - one button with the "normal" label (ie. Select) and another with the "movie" label (ie. Display). But, like the other new IR-to-USB dongle remote, it's a much cleaner solution.

Still waiting for a company to come up with an IR-to-BT solution so we can actually turn it on from a universal remote...

agree, the only reason that I can see for Sony not having done it already is to give the stand alone units an advantage at this time until the prices make them more competitive.

I just got a bunch of these and look forward to testing it out on the PS3 tonight. I also plan on teaching the commands to my RTI remote and then I'll be one happy camper.

I'll let you know how it works

Anyone try this remote? Is it just a cleaner look to the PS2 remote solution where some of the buttons do not work, or do all the buttons work with this? Thanks for the input.

It's for the PS3, so everything will work. But as mentioned in an earlier post, it only LOOKS like it does more, since it duplicates most buttons twice - once with the original PS3 function, and the same button again but with the movie playback label.

Thanks. I just wanted to make sure that all the buttons worked as they do on the PS3 controller. I think I will get this so that I can learn the codes to my Pronto.

This remote works perfectly!! Exactly how the controller works. IMO - it's the best solution for controlling the PS3 with a TSU9600.
May the pronto be with you

I thought that I heard that some Sony DVD codesets work. Check around for them. I might be wrong though.

It all depends on the specific remote. The only crucial ingrediant to making one of these PS3 remotes is what the USB dongle transmits to the PS3; up to that point any IR commands could be chosen to trigger it.
