Question: If someone were to ask you, "What 3 DVDs are your most-watch?"

Which ones would you pick? You know, the ones that you play over and over and over again.

My 3 "worn out" DVDs are:

1976 "All the President's Men", starring Dustin Hoffman, Robert Redford, Jack Warden, and Jason Robards.

1998 "Return to Paradise", starring Vince Vaugh, Anne Heche, Joaquin Phoenix, and David Conrad.

2003 "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World", starring Russell Crowe, and Paul Bettany.

I'm hoping to add to my "DVD-worthy" Collection. :-)

It's a Wonderful Life
34th Street
Scrooge - most any version.
The Grinch is also becoming a favorite.

1. The Nightmare Before Christmas
2. The Usual Suspects
3. The Graduate ("He certainly is a good walker!)

Ask again tomorrow....

Gee, I have no idea how I would pick my top 3 discs.

I mean if I were to go by "the most watched" I would say Clue, Murder by Death and Last Action Hero. Yeah, quite the film connoisseur am I! But I would never call these excellent movies, or even my favorite movies on DVD. Generally they're even pretty bad transfers. But when it's late, there's nothing on TV and I have no idea what I feel like seeing, I just pull one of these out and relax. What you'd call a "guilty pleasure".

Now if you wanted "the best 3 films I have on DVD" or even "the top 3 films I would show to guests", then I have no idea how I would cut that list down from 20 (out of about 400) - but I can assure you that the above three titles would be far, far away.

The scene when George Baily prays at the bar, gets me every time. Have you seen, "The Muppet Christmas Carol", starring Michael Caine? It's my favorite Scrooge. :-)

Sorry, not a big Chevy Chase fan, but the scene where Clark Griswold tries to unravel that big ball of tangled Christmas lights, is a keeper. :-)

Nice picks! I have all 3, in what I call my "DVD-worthy" collection. Big Tim Burton fan, have you seen his latest, "Corpse Bride"?

My apologies for the confusion (top 3 all-time vs. 3 most-watch), I've edited my original post to indicate which 3 would be your most-watched.

But when it's late, there's nothing on TV and I have no idea what I feel like seeing, I just pull one of these out and relax. I mean if I were to go by "the most watched" I would say Clue, Murder by Death and Last Action Hero.

You're explanation of "most-watch" is exactly what I was looking for. To be truthful, your picks can be categorized as sleeper picks, unfortunately it's the kind that actually make you go to sleep. :-) Just kidding. Have you seen "Deathtrap", starring Christopher Reeves, and Michael Caine?

It still sends shivers down my spine when I hear Al Michael's rhetorical question, "Do you believe in miracles?" Great cheer flick.

Thanks everybody for replying. I hope many more will respond.

Nightmare Before Christmas and Strange Brew are great.
But I have one movie I watch more than any other. The Good, Bad and the Ugly. I no longer watch the Laserdisc as a very nice transfer of the DVD was released recently, with extras.

Every time I see it, it takes days to get that music (guitar & whistle) out of my head. :-) Have you seen Sergio Leone's "Once Upon a Time in the West"?

You know, despite being Canadian and overwhelmed with shows like SCTV, I don't think I've ever seen Strange Brew. I've seen some of the other SCTV-themed movies and have been less than impressed...

You guys catch the Bob & Doug characters on Brother Bear? Best part of the movie... :-)

That is very un Canadian of you. I was born and lived in the Toronto area until I was about 8 years old. I don't recognize much of the area, but my dad did as we were watching it once and said it was near where I grew up.

The movies is stupid as stupid can be. But any movie where a canuck is shoved in a vat of beer to be drowned, and drinks his way out is pretty funny by me. Plus the the beer drinking and flying dog, the effects are the best.
When good enough is not good enough.

I love the movies that you think you have figured out and at the end are like...."OMG" now I have to freaking watch it again. "The Usual Suspects" is a great one. "The Score" was great as well. Top 3 watched though

Ocean's 11
Bourne Indentity
Rush Hour "Do you...understand...the words..that are coming out of my mouth?" I still laugh at that just typing it here....

the sequals for each of these are notworty too, and often replace these....
I long for a better world. One in which a chickens motives will not be questioned when mearly crossing the road.

Sc0tty -

Nice sidebar discussion. I would like to add three more that I think would qualify:

1973 "The Sting", starring Paul Newman, Robert Redford, and Robert Shaw.

1999 "The Sixth Sense", starring Bruce Willis, Haley Joel Osment.

2001 "The Others", starring Nicole Kidman.

I was going to include 2000 "Memento", starring Guy Pearce, but I couldn't even figure which end was up, let alone who done it. :-) As for most watch, I love the music score from "Ocean's Eleven".

Ridenour -
Great repeater -"Pulp Fiction" Can you say "royal with cheese?", and that twist scene between Vincent (John Travolta) & Mia (Uma Thuman) at Jack Rabbit Slims is unforgettable. BTW - Vincent & Mia didn't win the dance trophy, listen for the clue (background radio broadcast).
