SO I have the dvd thing down, but I can't seem to be able to find blank cards for the dvd cases, you know, the ones that slide in from the top behind the plastic and create the front and back of the case. What do you guys use, what program, and where do you buy them at? I got a schmokin deal on dvd-r's in 10 packs with cases for 2 bucks a pack, so I bought the whole shelf. I keep my cd's in a huge caselogic holder but I like keeping my dvds in their cases with the art work and the discription on the back. Also, do you guys have any trouble burning dvds after the label is stuck on them?

I don't think burning the DVD after you stick a label on it is a wise idea. And on one of the forums I frequent most people prefer to use an Epson R300 printer and printable DVD's for labeling. Those stick on labels can become unstable. As far as the case goes- I use a program called Acoustica. It not only prints on the CD or DVD, but also prints inserts. I just use a high quality photo paper and cut it to size after I print it out.
For a CD insert it does a wonderful job. Not so wonderful on a DVD insert though. Part of the original insert always seems to be missing after I print it out. One of these days I'll figure that problem out.
Anyway, I went thru 3 programs before I found Acoustica. I highly recommend it.

Putting labels on a disc is a recipe for disaster. Don't some burners print right on the disc? That would be the only way to have a label on the disc. Or handwritten.

Slightly off-topic, I really don't know what's up with blank DVD media. They're selling the stuff off dirt cheap everywhere - seems to be even cheaper than CD media.

I've noticed the same thing. A couple weeks ago I was at CompUsa and they were selling 25 packs of DVDs for $3.99 (after rebate, of course) and a 50 pack of CDs was $8.99.

Yep-got 4 packs. With them so cheap I record everything to DVD--cheaper than a DVR would be.

You may of got exactly what you paid for. CompUSA brand blanks are made by either Princo or Optodisc. Princo is well known in the burning world as one of the worst blanks you can buy. Ditto for Optodisc +R. Optodisc -R is a little better. You can check the identity of what you purchased with this free program:

For the best blanks Taiyo Yuden is the one to get. They can be had for about 33 cents each. White hub printable is about the same.
I have never made a coaster with TY's.

Sidenote- I have no problem paying 33 cents for a single layer blank. But I do have a problem paying $3.50 for a dual layer blank. Ouch!

Yes, I always buy my blanks from Supermediastore. But I think the ones under $.25 are 4x. And you have to buy 200 to get that price.
4x blanks are ok. But I prefer 8x, which cost a little more.

I never burn anything over 4x anyway. Too many errors crop up. The CDR/DVDR tech can't handle it, no matter what they've sold people on. 52x CD burning, BS. And my SA burner is 1x only, of course.

Actually, it's 300 you have to buy to get $.24/each. But even in 100 stacks, it's less than $.30/each. Watch for them to have sales, prices get real nice occasionally. 200 8x for $50 for one day or other deals like that.

I burn at 8x all the time and never make a coaster using TY blanks and a BenQ 1640. Best possible combo out there. Only done around 130 burns though. I'm sure someday I will make a coaster.
Plugging it again- Supermediastore is the best place to buy blanks. Period.
