I am looking for some input on DVD management. Forget Kalaidescope!! I have approx. 500 DVDs on a shelf and a single disc player Sony DVP NS900V. Looking to make this situation more manageable. What do you all think. Thanks Tom

I currently manage 1,303 DVD discs via 4 Sony DVP-CX985V 400-disc DVD Changers and my Philips ProntoProNG TSU7000 remote. My configuration file for the TSU7000 is available for download if interested. The interface provides the ability to browse ones collection by DVD cover image A-Z via any one of 24 genres/categories. Once selecting a disc loading screens are then displayed while you wait as the disc and all the proper source selects are queued up. You can even have the lights dim as the movie starts to play if you have X10 control of your lighting. Short of inserting DVD cover images at 72x100 to buttons with the editor and linking each to the proper slot number all the hard work is already done for you via my TSU7000 configuration file. you can also try a couple Sony DVP-CX777es changers with an Escient DVDM100. It's a fantastic product with a great user interface.

If you're a Media Center user, then you could get 2 777ES's and download the free MCE plugin called "My Movies 2". It's currently in BETA and should be available by the end of this month, and it now supports 777ES control.

Guess I'm behind on things... 433 individual DVD titles according to my paper database (not including multi-disc sets or TV seasons), and I'm still using a single disc player. :-P

Daniel... I've just got a big HUH?!? The single disc player I can understand but... given that this is essentially a gigantic database and you've done all the coding yourself... what's with the pen and paper??? Oh the irony.

"Well I don't yet have 500 DVD collection. But this is how I fixed my DVD management problem. I also take my remote with me to DVD sales to ensure I do not buy duplicate movies when I go to a 3 for $20 sale and go crazy buying DVD's LOL.

You can get two or three or ??? Sony 400 disk DVD changers and the URC MX-3000 remote and add the DMX-3000 software to have full control along with two ways to preview your collection. The remote screen itself and the on line DVD profiler program. I have spoken with one other person with this set up and he has a Pioneer 301 disk changer and two Sony 400 disk DVD changers. The remote seamlessly accesses all movies on all changers. He also swears by this setup just as I do. It takes less than 5 minutes to update your collection with any new movies you may purchase and want to add to the DVD changers and remote.

I love this set up and bought the MX-3000 remote to allow me to use this DVD management software (DMX-3000). The remote turned out to be even better than I was expecting once I was able to dedicate the time to program my remote to work just how I liked.

I currently have a Sony DVP-CX995V and at the rate I'm going it's not going to be long before I fill it up. I also have the MX-3000 software and have my own method of adding DVD thumbnails (manually) to the screens.

I've been looking and I really can't find anything about how to set up a second CX995V to operate with the MX-3000. Any help appreciated.

Lowpro how did you get a round the 3 changer deal that sony set? What I mean is I was under the impression that you could only chain up 3 changers together to control.

I believe initially Lowpro used a mix of IR (1st 3), and RF for his 4th to control his changers. Try leaving a message on "DVD Jacket Displayed" thread at Philips Pronto NG forum for a quicker response from him.

Reading pg. 7 will give you the full details of his working configuration. I have mimicked my pcf file from his and it's brilliant. :-)

Well you can't chain them, but there are three unique codesets available via the command mode 1-3 switch on the back of these units. In order to operate my 4th changer independently I am using a second RF extender. The first three changers are on my first RF extender, ID0 / CH0. The forth changer is on my second RF extender, ID0 / CH1.

And, If you so desire, you can get a Xantech RT-8 IR router and setup all your changers on the same codeset then just send the RT-8 a command to tell it which changer to route the IR to. I used to use 2 RF extenders like Lowpro. Since I bought my RT-8, I've been able to consolidate down to a single set of DVD device pages in my TSU7000 and just have buttons at the top of the page to control the Zector HDS-4 input switch and the Xantech RT-8 IR routing.

Ok, folks. That's all about physical management of discs, but can you suggest some soft for such purpose? I just can't handle my huge collection in the notebook or Excel...
