Has anyone heard of a replacement changer for the Sony 777ES? I heard it is going to still have the RS232 interface for things such as Escient, Request, etc., but will also have HDMI. Does anyone have more info on this?
Thanks.

Someone over at AVS said that they talked to a Sony Rep at CEDIA and were told that any changes to the ES line of players will be when they come out with Blu-Ray. Making it sound like an HDMI 777ES upconverting player isn't going to happen.

Rob I have had one for a while, bought it out of Best Buy in Ct. It is much like the older 985 model but with some very nifty features. Has zoom up to 4 times but does not fill past the black bars and leaves a 2x etc icon in the picture corner. Having a Sony tv I use the tv zoom to fill the screen when I want. As far as I can tell the menu is still slow and ponderous to use so I still use a paper list of all 400 slots...... But the picture is still only as good as the component 5 wire picture. DVD's are only 480 lines I think anyway. The only advantage to the newer player is that I can have a third progressive scan device plugged into my tv. One the dvp-995 in the hdmi slot and two dvp985's in the component 5 wire slots in the back of the set. Still for the money it rocks! And they look good in the rack as well........
