Hello all,

I have just bought that DVD changer I have ever had but
beware guys as there are a few anomalies with it..

Now admittedly most of the problems are just the differences
between this and past Sony machines but I found a problem
that caused me 21 hours of H.E.LL ..

So here I was, it was unboxed and installed and now I
had to start loading the thing almost to capacity I might
add (350 DVD’s) and I knew that I had to start labeling
and adding them to various categories and folders but
this was easy with the DVD cases in front of me and it
only took about 5 hours.

Now for the problem... I turned the machine on a couple
of days ago to show it off to a friend and it locked up.
So what did I do? The same thing that any other man would
do, I started pressing buttons, stop, pause, open door,
and on and on I went..

Then I turned it off and then back on again... GONE!!!
everything was gone all I had were 350 question marks
so the machine had lost its memory of all my work and
I have just spent 21 hours re-doing them all over, but
this time without the cases handy, cause lets face it
they all got tossed in a box.

So what I had to do was sit and watch the first few seconds
(sometimes minutes) of each movie to see what was what
and of course I knew about 75 percent but then there were
those movies that play for about 15 minutes before they
start to put anything on the screen, normally not bad
but in this case it was .... Well you get the Idea...

So on finishing I realized that I had just gone through
my HD Tivo finding hidden codes and switches that are
built in but the manufacturer either doesn’t want you
to know about them of perhaps they are just flukes of
programming, either way if this Sony has a MASS DISTRUCT
sequence it would have been nice of them to tell me DO
NOT touch these buttons in this order or it DELETES everything
which is what happened.

Well, that’s my story, sorry for going on but I was both
wondering if this has happened to anyone else and also
wanted to warn any unsuspecting owners of the Sony DVP-CX995V

We purchased the Sony 400 DVD player in August 2005 and
had no problems for several months.


However, in early 2006 we lost all the title information
we had manually entered. Essentially, the machine “reloaded”
all the discs, wiping out all the information. We reentered
the information a few times and it kept doing it.


We called Sony and they suggested that our power wasn’t
“clean” enough, so we purchased an expensive power conditioning
unit (it cost more then the DVD player!!), retyped all
the information and had the problem again. We contacted
Sony for a replacement unit. We had the same problem,
and the unit was replaced a second time.


With our third unit, we haven’t taken the time to reenter
the information. Instead we are using printed spreadsheets
to keep track of our CDs/DVDs.


Sony says they have no record of anyone else experiencing
this problem. However, I see from doorpro's comments
that we are not alone. I'm not aware of any built in
MASS DESTRUCT sequence as doopro mentions. Has any one
else had this problem? Has anyone else seen the Class
Action Suit against Sony for problems with DVD players?
It doesnt' include this model, but it makes you think......


In general we love all our Sony products, but this issue
has been very frustrating.

Hey Tj,

You would never be able to hear any difference, if you
switched to digital coax.

Your second question relating to PQ I cannot answer.
LOL... I had the opprotunity to audition one of the 995's
the other day and it wouldn't read a single DVD. This
was used of course but none the less, not too impressive.

I would be surprised if the 995's scaling would be better
than the elite 82. But then again I haven't read anything
negative about the Sony's capabilities in that area.
I guess the one plus would be not having the additional
equipment (receiver) in line. DVD player to display,
rather than DVD to Reciever to Display.

If you do end up with one, post how the PQ compares to
the elite's abilities. I would like to know.

i have 3 of the these units using the DMX software for
the MX-3000...works AWESOME....never have any problems
either.
