As I understand it, it's yet to be released on DVD. Check here for details.

Yeah, but that was a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.

That copy you own is probably unedited. And it's sounding like the new release will be edited in some form or another. I particularly dislike editing of any form. So if you are pleased with the VHS copy you own stick with it.
I own the movie on laserdisc and have no intentions of buying the DVD when it comes out, edited or not.

I was under the impression Disney had no plans to ever release Song of the South onto DVD.

That would be a bootleg. Perfectly good option for this flick since Disney is still (apparently) saying no.

I purchased an original of SOTS in Pal(European)format about 7 years ago and then had it converted to NTSC(American)format. I sold the original a couple of years ago and kept the copy. I recently purchased a DVD recorder off Ebay that is Macrovision free. Using the vhs copy as the master I burned it onto a DVD+R disc and was surprised to find that the quality was actually better then the vhs copy! I would now like to start selling DVD+R copies but am concerned about getting into trouble.

Well, that's a new one. I'm impressed that a cheap DVDR can actually improve the quality, too. Must have a "remaster" mode.

The DVD+R's that I buy are made by a company called Ritek which is actually one of the best on the market. Ironically I have found that some of the worst on the market are made by the mainstream brands like Maxxel. I have also found that DVD+(plus)R work much better in my recorder then DVD-(Minus)R's. A lot of people are still unaware that there are two different types of DVDR's. The recorder that I use, made by Rite-On has been hacked so that it will record anything, including Macrovision protected copyright material. I absolutely love it. They are easy to find on ebay and reasonably priced.

I ordered that Song of the South DVD from Barclay Hinson (see post and link above)several weeks ago by money order and have not received it yet, and cannot get any response now to my emails. I HOPE barclay is just busy like me and has not gotten around to sending it. I'll advise when I hear more!

Vector 9 - so if I'm ordering a copy of song of the south and they give me the option of ordering a DVD-R or a DVD+R - which one should I order? Will either format play in my DVD players here at home?

Does anyone know if you buy a PAL copy how much it costs to have it converted to a VHS or DVD somewhere and where can you have this done at?
Thanks!

Unless you have a DVD player that can convert PAL to play on your NTSC TV, don't buy a PAL version.

DVD-R and DVD+R should both work. But you'd have to do trial and error to see if they will work for you. You can try looking up your model player at places like videohelp.com to see if others have posted experiences with various media.
