Hi all,

I've been looking around to find out how to unlock my dvd player to be able to play region 1 DVD. I have read several topics about it but never managed to make this work.

I have a laptop with IR, I have a Pocket PC with IR.
I have Winsamp on my PC but can't boot in dos mode as I have no disk reader. I also have the pronto edit software.
I have remote control II, pdawin, vito tv on my pocket PC.

I have downloaded the region free ccf file available here but the file is on ly 1Kb and has no skin. I have tried to add my own skin on it with Pronto but my dvd player doesn't react when pushing on the buttons.

Heeeeeeeeelp :-)
Thanks
Klint

Hi

I currently own the Sony RDR-GX7 region 2 dvd recorder and looked into making this region free. I believe (could be wrong though!) the only way to make a sony drive region free is to actually change the switches on the main board. I asked at a Sony shop and they were more than happy to do this for me for around £30 and it would take about 5 minutes if that in the back of their shop.

May be worth giving them a shout.

no many people have already managed to make those models (yours and mine) region free but I'm not sure I'm using the right method. :-(

It only took a 5 minute Houston to Nasa shuttle to arrange a Remote Contol hack, makes you think what could they do in a few minutes time, the day the Region free dam burst. Houston we have a problem the DVD discs people gave us to play were not all region 1 what can we do to view the discs? Radio signal sent up was a remote control 'hack' to make the DVD 0 to view any disc put in the player. If the USA astronauts could have it why not everyone, how and why it became legal for companies to do RC mods or hardwired Progressive Scan ook it up its in the history books.

Mike,

I don't have the codes for your model but I think you can find a .CCF file on this site which would help you to hack your DVD. I don't know if you have a universal remote where you could import your .CCF file but you can have a try with a Pocket PC. How ? Well you simply download a remote control software, eg: http://www.pdawin.com, then you import the .CCF file and you use your Pocket PC infrared port to emulate the IR signals.

The most difficult part in this method is to find the right IR codes (or the right .CCF file). There are other methods but I would advise you to have a look at http://www.vcdhelp.com and click on DVD hack to search for your DVD model.

Good luck !

I have found the right IR sequences for my DAV-S550 and you might have a try with your model as those sequences are the same for many different Sony Model.

All you need is a PC with infrared port and download a program called Winsamp: [Link: veg.nildram.co.uk] and IR sequences: [Link: selen.org]

You can find the fully detailed method here:
[Link: videohelp.com]

I had already tried that method with no success before but it was apparently caused by the weakness of my IR signals coming from my laptop. You really need to bring the laptop very close to the DVD player. Once you'll have entered sequence 4, you'll see the message "data reset' on your dvd player, then you finish by pressing 5, turn off the DVD player for a few seconds and when you'll turn it back on, it will be zone free.

In regards to all the post to do with the hacking of my DAV-S550.
I have tried and tried all methods i have come accross, most recently the winsamp software. from what i have read this seems to be the most popular and works quite often. problem is i just can not seem to enter my own buttons onto the 'remote'

My laptop has a IR port so it can send signals but i can not seem to make it accept signals. so i can not enter the hack codes for my Sony.

Is there any chance anyone out there could mail me a copy of manybut.exe with the 5 buttons needed already ptogrammed in, or even a copy of it with any 5 buttons as i can edit them.

Thanks and hope to get something soon.
