I have two Toshibs DVD players and both of then freeze up from time to time when in play mode with different dvds. I understand that there is a class-action law suit pending? I also would like to know if I unplug the dvd player will it reset like a pc?
Thank You

I'm not sure about your specific problem, but I can tell you that different titles can send some DVD players off the rails. Sometimes DVD production people just go a little too far with their custom menus, other special features or simply the way the content has been encoded. Some DVD players, like a Samsung I bought for someone a few years ago, were exceptionally bad. Generally I'd say this is a problem with disc content rather than the DVD player. Of course one would hope their player wouldn't just lock up.

I've never had a problem with Toshiba players other than older models not being able to read recordable media.

You should be able to cut power to the player and then once plugged back in, just eject the disc. Some current models are more like a small general purpose computer than you would think (going as far as using a DVD-ROM drive connected with standard ATA interface).

I have a Toshiba SD-V291 (combination VCR and DVD player). I have it hooked up to an RF modulator as my TV is not DVD compatible. Sometimes, when I play a DVD movie, I have to turn the volume up so high just in order to hear the movie that when I switch back to the TV, it is blasting. What is the cause of this? Is it the DVD player or something else? I did receive a notice in the mail about the class action lawsuit against Toshiba. Other than this, the only problem I have with the player is that it sometimes gets stuck in protection mode and I have to reopen and close the DVD drawer to get it going again. (Protection mode is when you see the uprised hand like a policeman stopping traffic, right?)

My Toshiba dvd player shows 'error' when reading a dvd I recently burned, but my Panasonic doesn't. I switched from TDK to Memorex dvd+r's but that didn't make a difference. I've been able to play other burned dvd+r's that I get but not these. Has anyone had this problem before?

I have 3 Toshiba players (SD-1750, 2200, 6200) and they don't play any DVD+Rs. Stick to -Rs and you won't have any problems. I have successfully used Kodak, TDK, Sony, Memorex and Maxell DVD-Rs.

My SD-K85osu, less than a year old was in pause mode, then I hit play and it froze and would not play. i was able to remove the movie and when I put others in, it came me an error messad "not a valid disc". I tried several other discs and same result. The discs however worked in other DVD players I have.

Just i just toss this player? Seems a shame.
