Just picked up a Gateway DVD player (no wise-cracks!) It was a demo model and was cheap for something with Progressive Scan and a digital optical out. Anyway, the unit was missing the remote. So I'm wondering if anyone has had success with any of the Learning Universal Remotes and a Gateway device?

You might try the OFA URC-6131, there are 65 brands of DVD players. There's a good chance that the gateway is just a badged of one them. Gatewy plasmas are made sampo, there is a sampo DVD code.

The place for the remote you want is here. Remote Central. You are going to have a tough time setting up your DVD Player with out the Factory Remote. Most Universal remote won't have the setup button. Make sure you buy something with this feature. You may find it hard to set up things like the TV Aspect Ratio and Digital out puts.

Sometimes a good deal is worth passing up.

I made the same mistake only I got 2 of the DVD Recording units for $50 a piece... great deal eh?!?! :) hehhehe oh well. I got one of their mp3 juke boxes with out the 20 pin usb which is proving equally hard to find. Gateway of course has a solution... for $139 they will sell you a learning remote... they wont sell you the usb cord however for a product they still sell. I wonder what you do if your past the warrantee and you break your cord? hmmmm this sounds like a company on its way out.
