Hi,

My bro just bought an Sony NS305 DVD thinking it would be a simple matter of a remote hack to make it multi region.

It seems this is only possible with a chip or a 'specially programmed' remote which you can 'rent' from DVD mod sites on the web.

I assume the Hack Remote is just a programable remote with the correct discrete IR code programed into it...

Does anyone know what this is??

I have a Marantz RC5000 and could program the code into it.

These were the instructions posted on the OFA JP1 group a few weeks back and were translated by RHM5757 into the Sony commands. I have used MakeHex to convert those into Pronto hex (that I assume you can use in your RC5000 -- you don't paste the top line as they are just descriptions). I haven't done this myself so, use at your own risk:

- Program individual hex-code (below) into five chosen buttons
- Put your DVD-player to standby mode (main power on and red light
above it)
- Push programmed buttons sequentially from one to five (the player
starts up)
- Do it again: Push programmed buttons sequentially from one to five
(the player goes back to standby)

The player should now be multiregion!

If the unit becomes multi region, does this procedure dissable the WacoVision protection?

Yes, I now have a codefree ns-900v

I used a palmpilot and those codes above.
One caveat though, pressing the buttons sequentially (1-2-3-4-5,1-2-3-4-5) did not work, but pressing each button twice did (ie. 1-1-2-2-3-3-4-4-5-5,1-1-2-2-3-3-4-4-5-5).

If you please could point out briefly how this is done with a Palm? I've downloaded and installed ProntoLite, and all I can do so far is teach it buttons from a devices's hardware remote. Haven't found a way to enter my own codes yet.

Lowlander, get Omniremote (http://www.pacificneotek.com/) and Ordesktop (http://www.ordesktop.com/). Hexcodes can then be copy-pasted into ordesktop.

You didn't save your PDB file by any chance and would like to share it with me? I downloaded ORDesktop, and the trial version won't let me save anything. I only borrowed a Palm for this purpose, and there is just a single player to edit...

@markusf: Thanks for the file! I did give it a try, but have to admit that I did not get very far with ORDesktop at all.

So I chose the way the Omniremote people propose for feeding hex code into buttons: Create 5 buttons, export Omniremote database to Palm's memo pad, sync memo pad with Palm desktop application on PC, edit hex codes (copy/paste codes pasted above into each button's section), and sync back to Palm. Import category back into Omniremote.

Then switch player into standby, press buttons 1-1 2-2 3-3 4-4 5-5 on Palm, watch 'success' message in player's display, power player on/off/on, and that's it.

BTW: I noticed that if you sync those pasted codes from Palm desktop to the Palm and export the category back to the PC, the codes have obviously changed and therefore will not work anymore if re-synced back into Palm.

Is there a way to port these codes to LIRC, or any other pc remote? I've been looking around for a Palm Pilot but wasn't able to find somebody that owned one.

So... any ideas how to multi regionize a Sony DVP NS300 (firmware version 1.605)??? I tried all the above in a ProntoPro and it did not work (and I'm not that useless).

Any ideas why this method does not work on this device?

It doesn't work for me on my dvp ns 900 v.
I read in another website which give the same method that it work on all NS serie. Maybe we don't do well.
The others please help us !!!!
