Hi. I'm using a Radio Shack 15-2104 learning remote to program discrete codes for my home theater. I searched the advanced codes on www.hifi-remote.com for a JVC DVD(code 0042), but there are no advanced codes listed for discrete power on and power off. Any idea where else I can start looking? I really want to be able to power up only the components that are being used, and power down only the components that are currently on. If I use the standard power toggle to turn on the entire system, the DVD player will automatically power off after some time of inactivity (i.e. watching TV for 1 hour), and then the DVD player gets powered up when I'm trying to power down the entire system.

Anybody have any discrete power codes for JVC DVD players I can try?

Thanks in advance!

Joe,

They are EFC=247 and EFC=248 for Off and On respectively. Not all DVD playes respond to discrete commands. The workaround is to try the play command from off. That usually turns them on. If so Play|Power toggle and Play|Stop are macros for discrete Off and On.

Jon,

My DVD doesn't respond to 247 and 248 (figures!).

I've used the Play to turn the DVD player on, but never heard of the Play/Stop to turn it off. I'll try that out tonight.

Thanks!

Joe,

Off is Play|Power Toggle (turns it on first if not on already and then off with the toggle). On is Play|Stop turns on and then starts to play but immediately stops usually before the unit actually does anything. You may have to tinker with timing between commands but OFA remotes generally work fine without any timing steps.

Jon,

The play/power toggle works fine to create a "discrete off" command.

Another question though, I use my DVD player as a CD player also. Through the menu command on the DVD player, I can access additional playback features such as REPEAT, RANDOM, and PROGRAM. Any way to get discrete codes for these functions? I don't see them as part of the EFC codes for the JVC DVD player (code 0558).

Just trying to do it without having to go through the menus or creating multiple macros.

Here is a fairly complete listing of EFC's for the DVD setup code. You might also try the EFC's listed under the main JVC CD code (CD_0072) in the advanced code section at www.hifi-remote.com. That might get more CD functionality.

Jon,

No luck with the codes for the CD. At this point, I have gotten the REPEAT command to work, but none of the others. Oh well, I still have the ability to program and turn on random play via the on screen menu.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Joe
